Tony Capstick is a well-known folk singer in the UK. This does point out the terrible conditions the grinders worked in - they did indeed breathe in 'dust and steel' (masks? unheard of) and that's why their life expectancy wasn't much more than forty. Think about that next time you pick up your straight.............!

Nice little video. Particularly liked the archaeological excavation of a Sheffield graveyard at the end.
Unfortunately Tony Capstick died about six or seven years ago. He is probably best remembered on this side of the "pond" as one of the malingering constables in "Last of the Summer Wine" which appeared on many PBS stations over the years.Quote:

Thank you very much for this video. The working conditions in most other industrial jobs were abysmal also in those days. Great times for the aristocracy, though!
