Need Alittle Info, If Possable

Okydoky, here goes.

I just purchased a Ventage Straight Razor off EBAY, and it's in pristine condition and shape, but I can't find any info about the doggone thing on the internet and am hoping that maybe, possably, someone here might know something they can share with me.

The Razor is stamped on the left side ' HENRY BUSS & SON ', and below that is ' NEW YORK '. The right side is stamped ' FULLY WARRANTED ', below that ' GERMANY '.

Scales are Black Plastic, pins holding the blade and scales together are Nickel Silver, the blade is a 5/8" and about 4" in length or a tad longer. I don't have any means to take a photo and slam it up so everyone can take a look, unless I can find the pic that was shown on EBAY, and place it here. But any info would be helpfull, if any can be had at all.

The Razor shaves perfectly, by the way !!

It sounds like this is one of the razors that American companies contracted German factories to make on their behalf. There are many of these type of razors out there. Can't tell who actually manufactured the razor, but I am sure that she will turn out to be a wonderful blade

Yeah Manah,, that's about all I was able to find, myself,,, other then a bunch of info on deaths and where people by the last name of Buss died, etc.

(Man, you take care over there in Israel, and in the Golan Heights. Wish the bad guys would leave ya'll alone and try alittle PEACE for a change ! )

Yes Mam,,,that's kinda what I'm thinking also. There seems to be one heck of alot of people that had Razors made in Germany and England back in the old days, and sold them in Hard Ware Stores, Sears and Robuck and Mom & Pop Drugstores ( 'Tonsorial Parlors',,,,LOL ) and they were all cheep in price, to say the least, now they cost like the Devil. My gosh, have you seen the prices on brand spanking new J.A.Henckels Razors and Boker Razors ? Weeeeeeeeuu,, talk about SKY HIGH !!!

I've got a couple of Ventage Henckles and a couple of Vintage Simmons Hardware ' Keen Kutters ' as well as Shapliegh Hardware ( who bought out Simmons Hardware) Razors, and would dearly love owning several Bokers, but I won't pay that kind of price, so I guess I'll just have to look at em and drool,,,:):):):):) !

Most of the razors my hubby (Joed) and I own are vintage ones that we have picked up at local antique shops and flea markets. I think we only have 3 new production razors, All Dovo's. Take a look around, you never know what treasures you may find :)

CarrieM, I've checked all the local Antique places here in the Houston area, and all of them deal in Antique Furnature and nicknacks, and don't deal in old and Vintage Straight Razors, but when I do find one in suitable shape without chips in the blades or broken edge tips, etc, I snag heck out of them. I clean them up, polish them out ( depending on Blade etchings ) sharpen, hone and strop them, and if the scales are broken or in sorry shape, I either make new ones out of Ivory or Linen Micarta, or will use Black Ebony or Bone that I buy from Texas Knife Makers Suppy here in Houston.

I just recently got into collecting Vintage Straight Razors, because my interest over the years has been Antique Firearms Collecting and Repairs, Rebuilds and Restorations of same, and making Knives, building Sailing Ships in Bottles, Scrimshaw, and things of that nature. I just decided that since i had a few old Straight Razors, and like shaving with them, that I might as well induldge myself in collecting them too. In the process, I've been learning about the various manufactureres, materials used in making them, and which ones to turn my back on, like those funky and sorry stainless steel ones that are cheep and not worth the time even looking at.

LOL,,,, I'm kinda what you might call a Jack of all Traites and a Master of none. But all of it sure is one heck of alot of fun. Tracing the history on stuff like this is even more fun, though !!
