Renaissance vs. Bismark

Hi group,

I am exchanging a Black Bismark, and I have been struggling to decide if I want another Black Bismark or upgrade to something else.

I think I like the Renaissance. Does anybody have both, how is the shave comparison, and how would going to stainless be for a newb like myself?

I haven't used the Renni, but I've honed and shaved with Best, Black Star, Bismark, Micarta, and I think Pearlx, but I don't remember. I haven't been able to tell the difference, but then again, I never got to do more than one shave (let alone a full face shave) with any one. (Just a single pass with each to see if they were ready).

My gut reaction is that it's largely about size and style, though stainless may be a bit easier to maintain (though I care for all my razors the same and wouldn't do any less for a stainless blade).

Hello, Alembic:

I have both the "Renaissance" and the "Bismarck" and rate both as equally excellent shavers.

The only thing I don't like about the "Renaissance" is the skinny handle, which paired with the big blade, throws off the razor's balance. For me, anyway.

Also, the "Bismarck" has a thumb notch.

I have both, and they both provide me with a great shave. Just recently acquired the bismarck and have only had 2 or 3 shaves with it, and have had the renaissance for about 12 months now.

Cant go wrong with either in my opinion. Have never had a dovo that I didnt like.

I would keep the Black Bismarck. It's an excellent shaver, takes and holds an edge.

I have the Renaissance razor, and I may buy a Bismarck sooner or later.

The Renaissance is a very good shaver, and I find it surprisingly easy to hone and strop. I dislike the scales though, but mine were somewhat damaged when I received it. I also think the faux ivory looks...well... fake. I may change the scales, but the blade is very good.
