Funny story ...... I had some Belgian Coticules (3 of them) that I had gotten from pro barbers for maybe $20.00 each in the 1980s. In 2006 I sold all three on ebay along with a couple of dozen straights that I had accumulated in the same time period.

When I listed them on ebay I asked a friend to critique my photos and item descriptions. This piqued his interest in shaving with straight razors and he found the 3 leading shaving forums on the internet.

He jumped in with both feet and his enthusiasim led to my getting back into it. I still regret selling some but not all of the razors and of course the 3 coticules. If anyone reading this bought a coticule on ebay in November or December of '06 send a PM to me. :)

Maybe...But just to be safe, I would pick what to you are the most good looking and send them to a restorer.

IMHO its not just a question of making them shave ready, but restoring their aesthetic allure as well. This may mean some work on the scales, along with the sharpness of the blades.

I have to half agree with BK - sorry buddy. Yes, these are all nice razors and I personally wouldn't let them go. But I disagree that you couldn't possibly get a good amount of money for them on eBay. I'm not saying this because of the condition, I'm saying it because some of these manufacturers seem to start feeding frenzies and people might get out of hand with their bids. You just might get more than you think for these, but it's not a guarantee.

Anyway, I still say keep 'em, clean them up and start shaving! You'll be kicking yourself if you don't.

On a side note, crop your photos in the future please.

Yes. I am sorry about the photo size but I didn't realise till after uploading them to Photobucket and putting them on here and it was too much trouble to photograph them all again.

BUT, I will make sure to avoid in the future.

Is there an approx cost to refurbing or does it depend entirely on the condition?

Refurbishing does depend on the condition and on the skill of the restorer. Some of them can make them look better than new but it ain't cheap. On my own razors I generally take a tube of Semichrome and a paper towel to them and call them restored. :) Depends on how fussy you are. If it shaves good that is all I care about. YMMV.

I wonder if Simichrome is the same as Solvol Autosol?

I wouldn't too hasty in refurbishing any of your razors unless you are sure how to correctly get the job done without doing any damage that might be uncorrectable.

When you are ready to restore one of them, post any problems you see in the razor and someone will suggest the best way to proceed. You'll have plenty of help on this site. Proceed with caution.......
