This razor used to belong to my girlfriends father whom passed away when she was real young. I was wanting to know if anyone out there could tell me about this razor and what it is worth. if it is worth something other than centimental value i would like to put it away somewhere safe

However, we can't tell you much about a razor without pictures... Or even a name/description of it...
Welcome to SRP. It is the policy of SRP not to give estimates of value on razors. If you check the name on the razor and do a search on ebay for the same brand that may give you something to go with. It's a Wade & Butcher Extra Hollow Ground. If you can't place a value I understand, How about a history timeline?

Those are good razors from a well respected maker. Condition dictates price on those. Do an ebay search for Wade & Butcher and you'll see a lot of them. Being a family heirloom makes it valuable to the family members and if it is in good shape it could be honed up and put back into service. W&B made some great shavers.
I added a pic to my last post. it seems like it is in good shape. I looked on Ebay to see if I could find one similar, but could not find any results.

Looks like a nice razor to me. You could get it honed and it would probably be a fine shaver.
As far as age, as close as I can get it is after 1890. Others here can get a lot closer though, I'm sure.
Plenty of life left in that beauty. Get it honed up and never buy another cartridge razor refill.Quote:

Thanks for the info guys. She still has the wet stone too, It says Bay state on it across the top.

id keep it and use it no sense selling family heirlooms thats why i hate that pawn stars show younger kids selling what they think is junk cause it wasnt cash or land left to them by their elders
The Bay State hone is a new one on me but typical in size, shape and style to what we call a 'barber hone.' They are usually very effective, in practiced hands, at maintaining a shaving edge on a sharp razor. If that was my grandfather's, and I wasn't proficient at honing, I would send it to Lynn Abrams or one of the other honemeisters in the SRP classifieds here.
