Default What's up with modern Bokers and Pumas?

I'm just curious why one doesnt hear more about them. Puma at a quick glance doesnt seem to sell very many, but Boker has a pretty full line. There are probably others in this category (esteemed vintage makers still making blades, but quietly) besides these. Why doesnt one hear more about them? Do they just not compete with their vintage blades/steel, or with the modern competitors (Dovo and T-I, mostly, I guess)? Cheers

I dont have a Puma, but I've got a Boker, a couple of DOVO's and a TI and they all shave excellently. I dont think I could tell the difference between them purely by the feel of the edge on my skin anway...! They're all excellent razors.

Well, I haven't tried the new Puma, but my Böker Celebrated is a great shaver. In fact I used it this morning.

The original Puma company changed hands in the early 1980s IIRC and eventually moved their production from Germany to other countries. I don't recall where but all of the info is on this site here.

The vintage Bokers, Pumas and what have you were very high quality razors. The current Boker, Revisor, Henckles are all great too from what I've seen. Follow the "razors to avoid" list in the Wiki and chances are you won't get a lemon IMO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

So - then why do you think the modern Bokers are more successful? Are they not as good as the old ones? Is a recent reincarnation? (I know this has happened with some old brands in other industries that have caught on in recent years, like straight shaving or fountain pens, where someone who owns or buys the old brand name starts manufacturing again after decades of dormancy.Or maybe Boker has been continually in business, but was barely hanging on and only very recently has revamped - i.e. in either intance just hasnt had the time to catch on.
