Vintage Double Edge Razors?

Hi everyone! As the title says I'm interested in picking up some vintage double edge razors but I'm not really sure what some good one's to look for are. I have an Edwin Jagger 89 right now and love it but I want to pick up some older one's and give them a try as well.

I have heard good things about Gillette Super Speeds and have seen a bunch when looking around ebay as well as Gillette Fat Boy's. What do you guys think of those?

Any suggestions or ideas as to what razors to look at or try to pick up? I want something that looks nice and is totally functional. Thanks!

The gold or iridium plated TTO (twist to open) Gillettes are both functional and good to look at.

I have two (2) gold plated Gillettes a 1948-50 Aristocrat, and a 1948-50 Milord - both are lovely shaving razors.

In terms of sheer functionality, a 1930s Gillette New (three (3) peice) is an awesome shaver.

I agree on the 1948-50 Aristocrat, and suggest either a ball end or fat handle Tech.

Like everything else in shaving most of it is good but depends on personal preference. Of the old Gillettes I like those from the "New Improved" era a bit better than the old type or the later "New".

Get into the TTO (twist to open) and I prefer the Red Tip super speed to the heavier Fatboy adjustables. I also like the '40s and early '50s super speeds as well as the Aristocrats from the same period.

The British made Aristocrats with the rhodium plating are gorgeous and the HD Rocket is a great shaver as well. Many great shaving DEs out there to find. :gl:

I would recommend open comb Aristocrat.

I agree with the previous answers; my experience with DEs is somewhat limited, but I absolutely love the shave I get from my "New" Gillette DE.

Good advice above. I love my 48-50 Aristocrat, it quickly replaced my fatboy adjustable as my number 1 DE.
