Solingen authentic or Pakistan knock off - Pics

Hello,

I am about a green as they come to straight razor shaving. I just made this purchase on Ebay. (The fellow was also selling other vintage blades)

Is the attached an authentic (good quality) razor or one of the Pakistani knock-off Solingens?

The blade is a 6/8 and says "Williams Bros. Cutlery" "Solingen Germany" and model number "502) on the blade as you can see.

It's a full hollow grind.

Is this a good blade? Want to send to Lynn for honing. As you can see, it also appears to have come in an original box.

Please let me know what you all think.

ANYTHING ANYBODY CAN TELL ME ABOUT IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. GOOD RAZOR? AGE?

Looks like the real McCoy to me..... Solingen that is. Nice condition too. By all means send it to Lynn.

Man, what a relief that'll be. Lynn sent me a note asking for photos. Sent them to him and not heard back yet and I was getting nervous that I had made some mistake. (really haven't given Lynn much time to respond but I wanted to know!!!)

Since it would appear to be a good blade (and rarely used, if even at all) Anyone have an idea how old or know anything about Williams Bros. Cutlery?

I'm intrigued to know more about my first razor.....

There is a data base with info however I'm pretty sure Williams Bros were just a retailer and had the blade made for them by one of the many many blade makers in Solingen.

Yea, it looks great! I think it has been rescaled..The scales look like some I saw for sale on Straihgt Razor Designs web site. 'bout 38 bucks just for the scales..Good get! It should shave nicely.

of all the landmines on ebay consider yourself lucky if you didnt really know what you were looking at. but either way nice find!!

In fact very nice razors. excellent buy.

From everyone's posts above it appears you got a good blade. My question would be, why would you purchase a blade if you thought it might be Pakistani? Ya gots money ya don't know what to do with?

Seriously, if you don't know what it is your purchasing you should consider other things to do with your cash on hand. Sorry if I am coming across a bit heavy but really, it's after the fact now that you purchased it, isn't it?

Now if you are just purchasing razors to collect and look at and maybe turning some into shavers that's another story. If you want all shavers I suggest you study up a bit more before jumping on a purty blade that won't even open envelopes or boxes.

Those are original. See the lock washers? I know of no one but the factory who can pin up a razor like that.

I felt confident that I had purchased a quality blade. LYNN was contacted to hone my SOLINGEN and had not seen it. He requested photos of it since there had been sold under that name of lesser quality. From my research prior to purchasing it ($56.00) that I was good to go based on the blade stamping of Solingen Germany.

I started to second guess myself but LYNN and all of you here have confirmed that I did quite well and I'm totally relieved to know that.

Hope I didn't offend ya. My reply was directed to all that ask such questions as this is an open forum and not just you. I was in your shoes not too long ago. Best advice I can give ya is to study up on razors and only purchase with confidence. There are tons of razors out there and you should feel good about your purchase. In time you will be able to identify a good deal when they come along. Just starting out looking for good deals has a high potential to leave the buyer with less than they expected.

Good luck with your purchase. I'm sure it will be a prise possession after Lynn puts an edge on it. I have a few that Lynn honed and they hold a special place in my collection.
