Sometimes they burn the blade and anneal the metal. Then they polis it out and in pictures it looks fine but the metal is still soft. I avoid restored razors on eBay like the plague, local finds also.

Endangered... I suppose that depends on where your hunting ground is...
I actually have better luck hitting up antique shops in small to very small towns vs anything in a big city, and the prices are generally better. I've never seen a razor in a 2nd hand store but I occasionally check them just in case. There are still a few razors beyond restoration sitting in my regular haunts if I ever get hard up(lol).
I am hunting the trophies to extinction in my area.
AFAIC that is a good thing. :)
I've got more than I need but not as many as I want. :)
The hunt is half the fun.
I always find that I need just one more. :)
It really is a thrill to come across one. It is akin to hunting. "razor fever"
I don't think the supply is likely to run out any time soon. I mean at one time it was the only game in town.
everyone used a straight razor and probably had more than one. How many people
really use them now?
Today I went on a hunting trip with my sister showing me around some antique stores in the area she lives. I found six razors in condition from just need honing to major chips.
I will try to upload some photos at a later time.
So I am happy to say that I have done my part in helping to whipe out a small population of straight razors in their natural habitat. The antique store.
