    Default Straight Razor Anatomy Question

I've always wondered what this little spur thingy is officially called. (And why is it there?)

    Thanx,
    Christopher

    Christopher,
As far as I know it is nameless, and simply an aesthetic function of the thumb notch on that razor- to remove said spike would look too open, to close the space between the blade and the spike would leave it undefined.

Hopefully that was rhetorical.. I would assume you would possibly kill the heel of that lovely razor attempting that.

I believe the correct name for that is the little spur thingy.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I don't know the name for it, but it helps keep my thumb from inching ever closer to the sharp heel of a thumbnotched blade while I strop

So in the spirit of Leonard da Quirm*, we should call it "The device for keeping your thumb away from the edge of a thumb notched blade while you strop."

Or TDFKYTAFTEOATNBWYS for short. It rolls off the tongue!

    * For those who dont read Discworld, Leonard da Quirm is a Leonardo da Vinci type mad inventor who is held captive by the Patrician in Ankh-Morpork. He comes up with these great inventions, but he admits he's not good with names so they tend to come out like the one above!

It's an old photo I dug up of my favorite Klas Tornblom razor that I originally bought from...hmm...I think it was gugi. I recently bought another just like it, minus the ivory scales. I've owned and shaved with several of the concave grind Klas Tornbloms, and every one has been fantastic! These pretty little razors are stiff and light and ultra nimble. The best damn shave I've ever had! My advice? Find one. Buy one. Love one.
