I received these in the mail today I don't know what happened I have gone crazy buying razors. What can stop this? Oh I bought a lot of eight more en-mass today.

As I have stated in other threads.. I buy jewelry/spa gift certificates or what ever your SO's weak spot is to offset the possible backlash. My wife now asks me when I am buying new razors with a smile on her face.
I have developed two habits to keep her calm about my acquisitions;
First off, she thinks this old stuff is mostly really cheap. (it's old, right?)
Second, and most importantly, whenever I feel I've gone a bit over board on my AD's, a pair of Louboutin shoes or a Louis Vuitton hand bag calms her right down.:beer2:
You only need one razor to shave with... I think she knows what's up. ;)
You could have more expensive hobbies that's for sure. Ask my dad about his vinyl & stereo equipment obsession. I have to ignore it when I visit because if I were to get into that... I'd need a second job.
P.S. If you have a camera would you mind posting a close up picture of the scales on the razor in the top right of the picture above? They look very interesting.
I got a little carried away in the bidding on this one but I liked the scales. The blade hits the scale on one side when you close it dont know what to do.

Those are beautiful. Send the razor to someone like Glen (gsixgun), it's probably a simple thing for him to fix. There's a section on the wiki about blade centering too.
I would send it to someone very experienced though, unless you're well experienced. The first couple of razors I tried to depin suffered broken scales. Luckily they were junky ones compared to these beauties.
Someone posted a brilliant idea earlier. When the razor arrives in the mail, it's not a new razor, it's one you just got back from being honed. :) I've also taken to buying razors from people who hone. Send one out, get two back. :wQuote:

In reality it is a good check to have the wife keep an eye out for obsessive purchases. :tu Having a wife that shares your passion gets expensive. Trust me! We have lots of razors though. ;) :y

Now what do you do if your wife is a minimalist?? I'm not by any stretch of the imagination :p
Razors need rest and rotation. It isn't good for a razor not to rest. Traditionally those how could afford it had at least a seven day set.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Dearly beloved and I have been together for almost 45 years. Not once have I questioned why she bought a certain jewelry, dress, makeup and other luxuries lovely ladies should have. Better yet, I encourage her to buy whatever she wants. Always have. And if she has not, I have bought it for her.
By now dearly beloved, who is an extremely smart and logical woman, also knows my habits and compulsions. Once she asked me if I needed all those razors, brushes, soaps, creams and aftershaves. "Of course," I replied. "I'm a gentleman." She smiled and shuffled away.
When I show her a certain beautiful razor, she seems to admire the art element of it as much as I. Sometimes I show her the rich lather I have whipped up and she smiles and says, "Thick."
She still cannot understand why on earth anyone would shave with a straight razor. Knowing I have a few loose screws and countless obsessions, however, she smiles when I say, "Because I am a gentleman."

There's the initial breaking in period, where the razors are something new to the relationship and you get the questions about why so many, where you going to put them, what did that one cost, you got another box from Japan, move that stuff(hones) off the table it's time for dinner.
Then comes acceptance once she finds out it's not going away. I make it a point to show my wife my razors after I've cleaned them up all nice and shiny and she says "Oooh, that's real pretty". Now she thinks they are jewelry for men, which, I guess they are.

Wonderful scales-should be preserved with expertise. My wife did a spreadsheet for me with my annual razor purchases by dollar amount, with a GRAND total........owwwwwwwwwww!!!!! Now my acquisition rate is sharply reduced.
Anybody ever read the circular story to their kids called 'If You Give A Mouse A Cookie"? It's kind of like that.
It's a game. She says I don't want you collecting another damn thing. Then I say, I'm not, I shave with all of these. The she asks, but why do you need so many, it looks like a collection to me? Then I say yeah, I can understand why you say that, but I am buying old razors that don't cost much, and I can always sell them. Then she says, Ok, that one right there (pointing to my Dubl Duck), sell that one. To which I say, but if I keep it longer, it will be worth more. Then she says, you damn collectors are all alike. Then I say, but I'm not collecting them.:)
This happens every 2 weeks or so.
Great part about restoring and honing for others is that she won't know if the package coming in is for your collection or to be worked on...
You know, as long as your RAD is not affecting your finances.
In other words you pay all your bills on time and you are still saving money.
You have an emergency money account that would last you one year if you lost you job or became ill.
There is nothing wrong with it. How ever if you are not in that position the more self control would be advised.
There is nothing like ending up with a few restore projects that end up with swiss cheese steel along the edge area. Or finding the blade you have been sanding on for a while has a crack in the blade to slow you down.
I won't forget my loup when I am out looking anymore.
All I have to do to see a SAD disorder is look at my wifes shoe rack.
It is 4 foot wide and 7 foot tall. Full of shoes now shoes are in the floor too.
Or the Barbie's in her closet on a rack that is about 35 foot long and 3 to 4 deep with Barbies.
Tell her you think you are sleep shoping because all of the sudden all these razors just showed up. You do remember some crazy dreams you were having. But you just thought it was dreams?:shrug:

Cold comfort, but welcome to the club!
All I can say is that as time goes by your taste in razors will change and become more discriminating and expensive. You will purchase fewer razors, but spend more money. At least the parade of boxes to your mail box will slow, but you will continue to stumble upon that Boker you have always wanted, or a (insert grind/width/point style here) that intrigues you.
In other words, like most the rest of us, you are doomed!!

Or ham radio.......you start off wanting to talk local, so you buy a book to study for you exam. The big day comes and you pass your test. When I decided to get into wet shaving about a month ago, I foresaw this situation and had a little chat with my wife about it (we're newlyweds). I told her that as long as she doesn't ask about my razors I wouldn't ask why we need another end table / sofa / rug / drapery / etc. Then I went out and bought 3 razors and she bought a sofa and a breakfast table set :-P
