Not sure if this was posted yet, but just came across this Hart Steel razor created to commemorate Baxter of California's 45th anniversary. Available June 16th.. quite a cool combination of the black and gold..

I like that look. the simple and modern yet sleek overall design is nice
That does look cool with the black blade. A friend bought one of the recent Harts and says the spine is thicker than the initial run and he loves the shave. I would like to see a Spanish or a French point model but I may just go for the standard model when I have the extra $. :)

Black razors always catch my eye. The Hart sure is a looker, but I'll never be able to get over that price tag.
I have a Black Beauty of my own. She may be about 170 years old, but she only cost me $35 shipped. Too bad some "silver" shows through on the spine wear (there is some on the back too). Still haven't decided if I'll tape to keep as much black as possible or let her have her "racing stripes."
Dylan, Brownell's gunsmithing supply has stuff that would be ideal for touching up that area here . Their silver solder black is to hide the silver solder line on a shotgun rib for example. Probably good for touching up hone wear on damascus razors too.Quote:

what is used to make the blade black like that? does it also prevent rust? (like that thing they sometimes do to japanese blades)? Does it wear off?
Coolest looking current production razor I've seen IMO. I really like the blackened blade. Kinda looks like a razor that a sniper might use or something. I'd love to know how it shaves once somebody here has got their hands on one. Blades like this one make it very difficult to have any control over RAD.
The KU finish on Japanese blades can wear off depending on how it got there... cheap knives just have a black finish while others are baked on in the tempering process.
Is this the same? Doubt it as it would have to be uniform for this company (I'm betting)...
Funny I've been in CA most of my life (unfortunatly) and never heard of Baxter... Looks to metro for me though so I may have just filed it as background noise...
I recently received this blade in the mail. Managed to pick it up at 20% off, due to a promotion Baxter of California was having for the month of June. Beautiful product, almost afraid to use it. The sleeve's also pretty amazing, and partly the reason why I decided to buy it - I'm a Makr aficionado.
What are the chances of the black rubbing off? The honing process would take some off of the spine right? What is this "coating"? I have a glock and a sig gun both of which have a coating on them prevents rust and increases durability. Is that the case here?Quote:
