Hello, Basil:
That's a solid meat and potato razor. Noting fancy. A good shaver. I like mine a lot.
Regards,
Obie
They also say they have a full grind one. Have you used one of them?
I just like to be sure I get a good razor and not a dud.
It's a great razor that everyone should have in their rotation! :)
Very addictive to use...makes me want to buy more!
Properly honed they will shave as well as the finest razors. I think highly of mine.
sorry the they i am referring to is the website rasurpur.de
I saw the site and thought i would ask about the razor.
Is the site a reputable one?
I agree with all of the above - I own 2 3/4 to full hollow Le Grelot's from rasurpur and they are very nice razors. They take and hold a great edge and are very comfortable in the hand with the TI scales. Also, Martin delivers them shave ready which makes this a great option for a newish straight user.
I bought a 1/4 Le Grelot from rasurpur and it is perfect. He delivers them truly shave ready and his service is terrific.
I bought the grelot with bone scales.
Thought I'd get something nice and classy;)
Only question is how do I properly take care of the bone? Is there anything different I should be doing with the scales after a shave?
Hi Basil,
Well, you pulled the trigger before I could finish typing, but I think you will be very happy with your new razor.
I used mine just yesterday morning and the shave was great. I won't go as far to say the razor is legendary, but it's a nice one.
You already have seen the accolades given to Martin so far in this thread, and I just say I agree!
For your bone scales, nothing too special, just make sure they're dry when you're done, as with other scales, so you won't leave any moisture on or near your blade between shaves. Others may chime in with more helpful info.
Enjoy! :tu
Hello, Basil:
Congratulations. You will be happy with the razor. Take care of it and it will give you good service and last a long time.
Keep the razor dry. This is important. That includes the blade, the shank, the scales and the pivot area. When oiling the blade after use, make sure you don't get oil on the bone scales.
Regards,
Obie
If I were to get oil on the bone what would happen?
Also thanks for the Link to your razor. I saw that shoulderless one but I like my stabilizers so opted skip it.
Also the prices are top notch. Even with the exchange and shipping it works to a great deal!
If I may Gents:
A good quality wax, once or twice per year will keep most any Natural scales in great shape for many years... Personally I recommend "Renaissance Wax" but there are many other high quality preservation waxes out there that will work just fine...
It's essentially a paste wax.
Here's a link about Renaissance Wax that'll help you out.
I have an older bone scaled razor that I use it on - it works great. I also have an new Boker Edelweiss but I haven't used the wax on those scales yet, because I want the handles to develop a little "character" first. :)
I use it on various plastic, horn, and wood scales, as well as the blades themselves. Just a little should do it.
I'm in the camp that thinks bone, horn and ivory should be treated with oil a few times a year. I use Walnut Oil. I just wipe it on and leave it for about 20 minutes and wipe it off. It helps prevent drying and cracking. As long as you don't leave it on a long time it won't stain the scales.
Should normal (plastic) scales be waxed as well? I was wondering if my plastic scales get worn out over the years (they're still quite new now), how easy is it to replace them them?
Sorry - :OT I know...
BTW, what is the best stone to use to give this razor a touch-up? I've given mine a few laps on the pasted strops but it still feels a tad dull in just areas so I was thinking maybe a few laps on a Belgian 8K cotticule?
Any scales can be replaced. We have a talented group of guys here thatknow how to do it for you.
Also a coticule is a great stone, but there are many stones you can use. Just start a new thread and you'll get lots of replies.
As for my razor. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. Can't waitfor it to come so I can open my new toys!:)
I've just noticed that there are so many posts and pictures of le grelots on this site. Each razor I see just gets the RAD going tho because they are all so beautiful.
It's like pokemon gotta have them all!! Lol
LOL, good old razor p0rn, hey?
A razor this good, deserves the publicity. It shaves even better than it looks - believe me :)
i have no doubt that it shaves amazingly or else it wouldnt be getting such great reviews.
My only fear is that i will love it so much that i go out and buy more!
You and me both, sir :( It's a "distracting" razor to say the least...
basil,
You can't go wrong with a Le Grelot, imho.
I noticed there a few different le grelot blades.
What are the differences between the blades with the half sun on them or any of the shoulderless ones or even the ones that just say a number like 360 6/8 on the side?
Oil replenishes and prevents drying and cracking. Wax will seal and protect but internally it can still dry out over time.
You should ask the retailer. They were different models Le Grelot razors, but after TI's refinishing they may or may not have the grinding that Le Grelot intended for them, and from my experience with TI razors I would be surprised if all razors with the same markings are even the same grind.
It kinda sucks how everything seems to be so inconsistent.
Hopefully this blade is all it's cracked up to be. If so you might just see a bunch of razors for sale from me! Lol.
It's here it's here!!
I'm so giddy I'm going for a shave now!!:):)
So i was so excited before that once i got my razor i ran off and had my shave.
Let me tell you that this razor is a dream! its nice and heavy in my hand so im able to control it perfectly. The blade is honed great and just cuts through the stubble like nothing.
Of course you guys all know this.
Without further ado here comes the razor porn(crappy pics tho sorry)
Hello, basil:
Congratulations on the new Le Grelot. I have the same model, in the white scales, too, and she is a sweet razor.
Regards,
Obie
Yes she is a beauty.
I love the bone scales they are perfect for this blade.
This blade is now my go to razor. I love it so much in fact that I'm planning on selling most of my other razors and picking up another one of these(maybe the rams horn) and calling my collection complete.
Now to wait patiently for my three months to be up.
Basil,
That's a beautiful razor. Congratulations. I'm happy to hear that you are having a great time shaving with it.
Don't be too hasty in giving up your remaining razors. You may want to keep a few in your shaving rotation forold times sake or at least to remind you of how great your shaves are with that TI Le Grelot.
I am planning in keeping a couple because they were gifts and what not.
But ones that I purchased for myself that I am not attached to will be sold.
Then again all of my razors shave great, just like yours do too I'm sure. But there's always one razor that feels the best on your skin. And for me the le grelot is that razor.
