8/8 Henckels Friodur Square Point

Have any of you guys ever used this razor? What did yo all think about it.

I can comment that I like the steel a great deal, but my experience of them has been the 7/8 Spanish version.

They usually are excellent shavers and easy to maintain. I have owned a few of them. They are a tad longer than the 7/8 and a little different to use than the 7/8 because of this, but a very nice razor. They are also good candidates for re-scaling should you ever be so inclined.

I can not say how they shave having never used one. What I can tell you is that they are well sought after and a highly reputable make. You can't go wrong with them unless your preference is for smaller blades. Certainly looks the part and is a true meat cleaver.

Edit: Lynn - you say they are good candidates for rescaling?! You got a problem with Glen or something? haha. I know from several posts by Glen (Gssixgun) that he finds them a PITA to rescale as only one he has come across wasn't bowed! They sure look good rescaled...

I have one of the 7/8 Spanish point ones, and I've had a chance to hone and shave with a bunch of other 7/8 ones as well. I really like how they shave, and they took a great edge with ease.

I do agree that they are good candidates for rescales (at least the ones I got were). I suppose different places will have them in different scales of different qualities - the ones I got were off ebay. The scales themselves were fine (I actually like black plastic scales), but the pinning was quite rough.

All the Friodurs are very well-regarded here, and posted about often. Try using the Search button and you'll pull a lot of good info on them. For their size and steel quality, they are often available at prices that make them one of the best relative bargains in high-end shaving, in my opinion.

The big Friodurs handle very nimbly for their size, but they are still big razors, in every way. If you prefer a more maneuverable and precise shaver, the big Friodurs may not click with you. I seem to have a natural soft spot for big razors, so the big Friodurs are a no-brainer for me, love 'em. But I've encountered some incredible (and very inexpensive) shavers in 5/8ths and 9/16ths in recent months that have me re-thinking my big razors. I guess I just like good razors, period.

How's that for a rambling, confused endorsement? :)

I have a spanish point and love it. Very nice shaves. I am thinking of getting another one. You will enjoy it.

I have one as well, shaves great, holds it edge well, and the weight allows it to plow through even the toughest whiskers, all that said, upon receipt of the razor I quickly sent it to Glen for new scales and heres what he did for me :)

I have the 8/8 Spanish Point Friodur in faux tortoise shell scales, and it is a lovely razor to shave with :)

As Mr Abrams has said, they are also easy to maintain.

I have two8/8 Henckels Friodur's one square point and one Spanish point, both with mammoth ivory scales from RW. They are both great shavers.
