Need some feedback on Thiers Issard Le Dandy

So I have a Dull Col. Conk 5/8 dovo best quality blade. I'm sending it to Lynn for shave ready honing. I have a half beard(no sideburns) My neck and upper lip are the hard spots.I think the 5/8 will be a good allround shaver. But, I thought I might get a 4/8 half hollow le dandy from Thiers Issard for getting the tough detail areas . Plus I'm deducing that the half hollow 4/8 blade might be good for finishing up those stubborn all directional neck whiskers(weeds) of mine aagh !? Any experience with this little ol blade or feedback in general is welcome . Thanks all,good shaving .;)

I don't have any experience with the Le Dandy. I do have some with a few 4/8 razors and I prefer a 5/8. It seems to me that anything I can do with a 4/8 I can do better with a 5/8. OTOH, it is about personal preference and I don't have a beard, goatee or mustache to work around. I've got over a dozen Theirs Issard razors and I like all of them.

At least thanks to you I pretty much know that Thiers Issard is a good brand. Thanks for the feed back my brother.

I have a small collection of straight razors six of which are Thiers-Issard 5/8" and 6/8". I love Thiers-Issard razors. Now and then you run into a problem with inappropriate fittings. Overall they are beautiful razors and quality.

If I had my choice between the 4/8" and the 5/8", I would choose the 5/8". That's as middle-of-the-road as you get. I find the 4/8" too small. I must say, though, that I have a 4/8" Wostenhom hollow point, which I use for travel. It's one of my sweetest razors.

TI's are great razors, and mine is an excellent shaver!

I was actually prompted to buy one through chatting with Obie, who recommended the model I ended up buying.

They're definately sweet shavers, and I'm sure you will be happy with yours! :)

Ok then....the concensus seem to be that Thiers Issard is a good blade,fair enough. The 5/8 is middle ground, fair enough. 4/8 is a little small but apparently is a good traveler and their are mixed thoughts on said size........I think I may just do the le dandy then,still deciding. A good travel blade woud be good and still not much feedback on the half hollow thing ? Thanks so far though guys. Do you folks find that the 4/8 is just to small or light to maneuver ? Or does it feel like your shaving a football field with a weed wacker instead of a mower ? Curious ? Also,Obie..you mentioned inappropriate fitting. Could you shed some light please on that. I know those things are not cheap. Good or not I'm wary ?

I find the 4/8" uncomfortably small, even though I have small hands, and also too light. My comfort zone centers on 5/8" and 6/8" blades.

The exception is my Wostenholm 4/8" full hollow with hollow point. What a sweet razor. What's more, it has good weight for its size blade. That's the one I use for travel.

I prefer full hollow razors, but I have no problem with 1/4th or 3/4th hollow. This depends on personal taste, really. Go with what you prefer.

Thiers-Issard is a good choice for a razor. These are beautiful razors and great shavers.

Out of six Thiers-Issard razors I had to send one back. It was an expensive razor, but what a fitting disaster. The replacement is a beauty.

I think a few too many flukes and glitches cast a shadow over a product's reputation. I believe that's what happened to the Thiers-Issard for a period of time. All my six Thiers-Issards are perfect in every way.

So, yes, I would put it in the fluke category more than anything else — from my own experience.

As the owner of a well trimmed full beard, I can only tell you what I have found to be the best for me....
For trimming, straightening, and that pesky multi directional neck hair, my favorite razor is a

11/16 Extreme Hollow grind Spike point, anything from 4/8 to 6/8 works fine, but I target the 11/16 size.

I really have maybe one or two under 5/8, and about 5-6 at the 6/8 size, the other 60 or so are all 5/8 or 11/16...
I have maybe 5 that are over 6/8 but those are mostly customs and just special razors...

Give me an American or Solingen with those specs and I am a happy man :)

For info, I have honed dozens of the TI Le dandy razors and every one has been a good shaver, I personally haven't seen the TI scale problems on the Le dandy...

Le Dandy
is a great shaver and takes excellent edge. i have never had any problem with any of them .
i have seen handle problems some of them had. it was bending etc because of their age.

I'd expect that like their other razors the 4/8 is fair amount larger, so at least 9/16 actual width may be even 5/8. My LeDandies have been the 5/8 and 6/8 varieties.

Thanks all y'all !!!.............Wow,we are not short on info here. Still have'nt made a decision yet,although now to throw a wrench in the works I am thinking about goin with a Dovo special. Since I don't have alot of dough. It may be the more economical thing for me to do . I've heard some good things bout'em. Aaagh decisions. Wish I had a table of razors to choose from and try. I don't have alot of cash to pick n choose as so not alot of experience with brands. I'll get through this somehow haha ! Thanks for the help though seriously . :confused: :)
