I have realized i need to hold off. I had a spending bindge last week. I thought about it and figured. Why keep buying more when i have prob over 150 razors. I have been collecting long before i started using them. Not that i dont want more but i was thinking. Send one or 2 out at a time to be restored instead of buying another one that need to be restored. Of course this may go out the window when i see a nice razor in the class. :)
I will prob ask for your oppinion on which ones to send out.
You could consolidate your collection by selling ten common razors to reinvest in one spectacular example.
How long have you been collecting? You've been here since October of last year and have ten times more razors than I do...I only limit myself to one a month and they're all locally sourced. :)
That is a very good idea. I have been collecting since i got my grandfather razor about 20 or so years ago. I started shaving in OCT. My father, along time talked me out of trying it. Mostly because his father took his away from him when he was younger. He told him " What are you trying to do kill yourself". Can you tell me what you think are the more common ones.
No one can really tell you that because we all feel differently about certain brands.I know that when I go through my collection for this reason,the first thing I do is make piles.One for absolutely keeping,one for "oh,these can go",and then a maybe pile.Then after waiting a bit,sometimes some of the maybes turn into "can gos".
I can definitely relate to that. Sound like a great place to start.
If i understand correctly you have razors you have still not tested
you never know what you prefer before after atleast a coupe of shaves,
so spend a few learning to hone send a few nice ones for honing
And hopefully you can hone well enough to asess the rest of your blades by yourself after that

I'd learn to hone the ones that aren't shave ready, and develop your cleanup skills. That'd be a good way to develop an area that you may not be comfortable with now...! :)
Yes i do have a ton that have not been tested. As a matter of fact. All the one i use to shave with and learned on are reciently purchased. Since OCT at least.
I did buy nortons stons to sharpen. Up to 8k and a chinese 12k stone. I can touch up razors. I was able to sharpen a gold dollar to shave ready. I got discouraged when trying to sharpen another with no luck.

I have over 200 razors and every time I try to pick one out to sell, it hurts. They are like my babies or my pets. I started out as a collector but turned into a user quickly. Straights are both beautiful and functional. Nice razors usually appreciate in value and you can build your own. They are fun, practical (no more $25.00 Fusion blades), and razors introduce you to an interesting and diverse group of friends. Why stop buying?
All this from a guy who grew a beard and only shaves a little on his neck. LOL

I was in very much the same situation when I had about ten razors.
Some seventy razors later, I have had to reign in the RAD; SWMBO was getting a bit cross :)
