Well I can't say how old it is.
But as for the notch in the blade, it has no purpose.
The blade broke in that spot and right now it's a very unusable razor.
Sorry that I had to be the one to break the bad news.
+1, unfortunately that razor has had it. Given the size of the chip and the location along the edge you couldnt even cut it down to a shorter blade.
You can salvage the scales if they are in good nick, and use them for a rescale, but that blade is unusable.
Its a shame because otherwise its in pretty good condition. :(
The notch has a very useful purpose. With a single swipe of the blade you can give yourself a narrow mohawk right down the center of your head.
The Blade is EVERYTHING and THAT blade my dear lad is a calamity.:dropjaw:

I truely admit to being a novice.
Sarcasm Basil?
Sorry Basil. Your info was useful.
Meant for Ogershok.
I will not thread again.
Steve, don't mind the guy poking fun. It is nothing personal IMO. Not kidding, I've bought some junk razors when I was starting out and I do keep them around for box openers. BTW, if that was bought with paypal you can probably get a refund. If not it will do as a box cutter or if the scales are in good shape maybe they might come in handy for a good blade in poor scales. Check out the SRP Wiki razor data base and you'll see what to look for in a blade profile when your considering a purchase.
Here is another one that will make you cry.
