Some advice on making an offer for a Duble Duck Goldedge

I was hoping to get some advice on what everyone thinks I should offer to someone I know for a Duble Duck Goldedge square point razor. It's someone I know that bought it from a barber for only $20.00. The razor is brand new but not in it's original box. At least, I don't think it's the original box. The scale is slightly warped to the point where you have to lightly bend it to close it. I'm not looking to try to steel it and I want to give here what's fair without ripping either one of us off. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to discuss any pricing even for valuation or advise purposes, so you'll need to do your own due diligence and look at e-bay or other places to get an idea of the value of the razor and what you are willing to offer/pay for it.

If you do a search on the site you will uncover many discussions concerning the razor you are interested in and there is very general talk about what they are worth in ballpark terms as an adjunct to the discussion. Other than that as Max said you have to come up with your own idea as to what you want to offer.

These razors are much sought and much prized. I had a like-new one that I sent someone (not a vendor here!) for honing about 2 months ago. I never heard from them again.

If you buy this razor, only send it to trusted people for honing or any other work it needs.

That's appalling! Did you not name & shame them? I've offered to hone a few times & it's awful that someone would shaft a newcomer in such a way.

kcarlisle, your source got a good deal on that razor. I guess it's worth what you want to pay. As mentioned, you'll get an idea of what they fetch by looking on the bay. DD's are great, but they fetch higher prices than they should. There are lots of others that are just as good.

What's fair to you and what's fair for him may be different things. Does he know what he has? Does he know the worth of the razor? Or would he be happy with getting rid of it for the price he paid?

One persons junk is another persons treasure.....

You could make him an offer, then if he goes lower than your conscience will allow you to sleep at night, I am sure there are other ways that you can make up the difference. Hauling that old hide-a-bed out of his basement or something like that.
