Which razor would you choose a TI Grelot 6/8 w.Rams Horn Scales, a Henckles Friodur 7/8 with custom Snakewood scales or, a Wacker 13/16 in Buffalo Horn scales?
I'd get the Wacker. I already have one Friodur, and I am not a fan of TIs. Plus I've never tried a Wacker before.
(I wouldn't actually get any of them, but you limited the options....)
I would buy another HART Steel.
I really like the Friodur - she's a smooth shaver with no drama. I also like the squarish tang.
In that range, I'd go vintage no questions asked. You can get some very very nice blades, regardless of the style, for $250ish and get way more for your money (imo).
Oh, I wouldn't mind a Revisor, though. I've been thinking about one of those 8/8 eagle ones...
i would go with TI.
Personally I'd go with the Wacker. I have one and they're great lookers and great shavers.
I have 2 Friodur and love it. Half the price of a cheep Wacker. I personally would go for a Wacker. I have a TI The art of shaving. Dont know how they compair to the other TI. Its been a few weeks since shaving with my Friodur but i think my the frio is a tad better than the TI. I would have to do a back to back shave to give a better review.
I'd get the ram's horn ti/legrelot. When will I be receiving it?
Wacker!!!!!
Wacker I think.
I have a Grelot 6/8 w/ Rams Horn Scales, two Henckles Friodurs and a few Wackers.
They are ALL excellent shavers. Look at them all and choose what YOU want....
I have a TI LeGrelot 1/4 Grind (which I understand is probably a better shaver than the 6/8), a vintage Friodur (which I understand are better and more consistent that the current grinds in 7/8), and a Wacker Antik. My best shavers right now are the Wacker and a vintage Revisor Gold ... this is against the above razors + a Wonderedge, Dorko 300 (my 3rd best), Weltmeister, Worldmaster, LeCroix, and Blue Bell ... some good razors and the Wacker is at the top of the heap. The Wacker is big, but balanced, easy on the face, and does a really nice job of slicing hairs for a smooth shave. It also looks great.
By the way, all but the Dorko and Revisor have been honed by Lynn ... so hone isn't a difference with these razors. Given that, I think depending on the beard, user preference, and specific razor, there are variables that will always come into play that have little to do with manufacturer. I have occassionally heard some negative comments on here about Wackers, and my assumption is that they had one that was inconsistent. This can probably happen with any razor, but obviously some have a reputation as being more consistent than others (e.g., I know TI has a bit of a reputation for quality consistency ... at least in the past. Just my 2c.
The TI is over priced. Owned a Wacker and sold it .... not impressed. Friodur not bad. IMHO, there are better razors both functionally and aesthetically that you are not considering. Did you ever shave with a well honed big blade WB? there's nothing like it.
Shorebird
Man its such a personal thing. You decide! They're all superb razors as far as I know. They are all highly reputable makers so you can't really go wrong.
What about the Maestro Levi that SRP has in the same price range. BTW I am looking for impressions not asking someone to choose for me.
Never having used any of these, I'd flip a three sided coin.
