Magnetic Camel? (pictures)
Hey Guys,
I was lucky enough to stumble on this gem in an antique store last week for only $15. I spent some time polishing up the razor by hand with some official Harley Davidson metal polish (hey, it's what I had - and seems to work really well) and did have to buff out some bad rust spots with the dremel and some red jeweler's rouge. I didn't go crazy because I didn't want to remove too much metal - but perhaps I'll go back at some point and see if I can improve the dark spots a bit more. Unfortunately, there were several spots in the etching that were pocked by rust - I was able to polish them out by hand making the damage less noticeable at least.
The razor is marked on the tang "Imperial Razor Co, New York-Germany, Registered 20507".
The scales are in OK shape and the rivets look like they may be original - so I think I'll leave the scales alone.
I honed it up two nights ago and shaved with it yesterday and today - and I'm impressed. It's smoother than my other razors - and I couldn't tell you why the edge on it would be any better than any of my others- I followed the same procedure for all of them..
Another oddity - this razor is definitely magnetized. No idea if it was done intentionally - or if it happened by accident. I can nearly pick up the end of a another razor with it.
Weird. Anybody know anything about magnetic razors? Or what the benefits might be?
Thanks all-
John
