i see a fair bit of windmill and pea**** scales but never on the same razors. generally they seem to all be from new england but not always. referring to the name on the tang as an indicator of where the scales are coming from.
i'm asking because i had one antique store dealer try to sell me some yankee cutlery blades in moderate shape with such scales for $100+

Some are into straights for the blades, others for the scales....
The guys who go for decorated scales don't really pay that much attention to the condition of the blades. I would bet that most scale collectors are not straight razor shavers. You'll see decorated celluloid scales bring big bucks and the older pressed horn scales too. Sometimes even more than the celluloid.
oh, so there's a whole other realm to straight collecting aside from those who shave with them. that's sad. this one guy has a few nice goldedge dd's but he wants three figures and they're dirty and dull. :(
