Select Your 7-Day Set
Ladies and gentlemen:
If you were to trim your razor collection into a 7-day set plus three additional razors for travel, what would be your choices?
I know this subject is trivial compared to all the major issues we face today, but it's Sunday and I have a big pot of glorious spaghetti sauce slowly awakening on the stove. So while I await its gala entrance later this afternoon, I thought I tease my mind with my sweet obsession — the straight razor.
Most of my modest collection of razors is new, except for a few vintage razors.
So once again, if you were to trim your razor collection into a 7-day set plus three additional razors for travel, what would be your choices? If you are just starting out and plan to increase your collection, please give me what you have and what you would like to have.
Here is mine from my modest collection:
Sunday: Thiers-Issard "Dos Festonne" 6/8"-7/8" dreadnought with white bone scales.
Monday: Filarmonica 13 Doble Temple 6/8" square point with original gray plastic scales.
Tuesday: Thiers-Issard Le Grelot 6/8" round point, 1/4 hollow with thumb notch and black plastic scales.
Wednesday: Thiers-Issard Le Grelot 6/8" round point, 3/4 hollow with white plastic scales.
Thursday: Thiers-Issard 5/8" round point with black bone scales.
Friday: Thiers-Issard 5/8" round point with snakewood scales.
Saturday: Wacker 1st Edition Sheffield 6/8" with dreadnought point and black bone scales.
Travel razors:
1. Thiers-Issard 5/8" round point with kingwood scales.
2. George Wostenholm 4/8" Spanish point with plastic scales.
3. Heljestrand MK 5/8" square point Swedish steel and white plastic scales.
If you would rather forget all this and watch a football game, that certainly makes more sense to me. Many thanks.
Regards,
Obie

That's a really hard question to answer, Obie:)
I have a rather small collection, but at the same time, I seem to really enjoy all of them!
So, today, these are my choices, selected from my about 45 razors.
Sunday: Filarmonica EPBD #14 Square point. Blue plastic scales
Monday: Robert Williams Custom 7/8 French point 1/4 hollow
Tuesday: Mastro Livi, 8/8 french point SS. Wooden scales
Wednesday: Tim Zowada 7/8 Damascus Spanish point. wooden scales.
Thursday: C-mon Filarmonica 8/8 round point, Off-white plastic scales
Friday: Joe Chandler 6/8 Barber's notch, bone scales
Saturday: Alex Jacques 8/8 Damascus Spanish point Micarta scales.
My 3 travel razors:
1. Filarmonica #13 Doble temple, square point, White plastic scales
2 Filarmonica #13 Medallon Taurino, round point, Green plastic scales
3 Tim Zowada 5/8 square point, Damascus, wooden scales.
I almost feel like I am cheating on the rest of them, but this set of razors would definitely keep me smooth-shaven:)

My choice would be Sham's beautiful set of Pumas, which unfortunately I haven't been able to talk him out of. :banghead: Add to that a Williams, a Livi and maybe a Heljestrand. Obie, I'm surprised there are no Klaas Kissing Cranes in your selection. IIRC that was one of your favorite brands at one time ?

Select Your 7-day Set
My dear Jimmy:
What can I say, I'm getting old and the memory isn't what it used to be. I do remember some things from this morning, but not everything. I think I had a great shave. Stay well.

Obie,
Now you put me in front of the difficult choice, but let's try. I have actually 21 razors so i could make 3 seven-day sets. All my razors shave well, but now i picked those that i have used maybe the most. They are no better than others; i can't just tell you why.
Mon: Heljestrand
Tue: Gabrand
Wed: Spike (Union Cutlery)
Thu: Volga
Fri: Thomas W Ward 'Army Razor'
Sat: Le Grelot
Sun: LeCoultre frameback
For travel i would pick:
Filly 14, George Butler 'Shakespeare' or Fiskars frameback

7-Day set
For me that would be easy.
I love my bone and rams horn le grelot so I would keep those as my travel razors.
My seven day set would be the same. Round point 6/8 mirror polish full hollow ivory scaled grelots.
The only things I would add would be my name on the tang and the days of the week in Greek on the spine.

I would keep my 7 day set of Gem's, a Dovo Bismark, my Harris Goar(made in KC) and I would have a most difficult time settling on the last razor. Should I choose by grind, nationality, point, bling, etc? Therein lies the rub!
