Who Else Loves Little Straight Razors?

I think I have a penchant for small things. I love firearms, especially small pistols ("pocket pistols"). And as I have started enjoying shaving with and collecting straights, I have slipped into loving smaller straights.

It started with a pair of Dovo Jubilaums. Then there the Dubl Duck Styledge and Dubl Duck Dwarf. Next Dylan shows me this Boker Baby and now sitting on my desk, a diminutive J. R. Torrey. While I know they can be useful for many close spots, I also just love these little razors simply for what they are.

I guess I better retrieve my Augustine from underneath this razor and continue reading!

I have this little Heljistrand MK30 (the razor on the right)Attachment 49139 . It makes shaving my upper lip , a lot easier .

Not my cup of tea but I would recommend that one with the extremely long monkey tail that has 'Perfect Razor' etched on the blade. Horn scales and an oldie. It has a short blade and they are collectible. I forget the name of the one most often seen but a few different makers mfgd them.

Lawson, you have yourself a Torrey Little Guard, I have a couple of them, they are one of the few square point razors I use. Enjoy her :tu

DePews made one. I believe Joseph Rodgers also made one, and maybe one other. Or maybe they were all (the blanks) made by one source and then sent out to different companies for finishing....

It was love at first shave with my Dubl Duck Dwarf! I also have a Boker Red Injun #101 that is a fine shaver. I don't know if it fits into the little category. Maybe not big and not little.

It seems that every little razor that I find for Nanna is made out of solid platinum and unobtainium. I gave up and am looking for broke toes now so I can cut them down.

No, I will not cut down a perfect full size.

Yep, small razors appeal to me, too. 9/16 seems like a very nice width for my purposes, but I'm not sure that I'd call that small, exactly. There seems to be a difference in perception on either side of the Atlantic: I get the impression that in the US 6/8 is regarded as medium sized, whereas to me that's getting on for wide, and 5/8 is in the middle. Anyway, besides a few 9/16s, I have a 4/8 Revitt and a recently acquired 3/8 Gebr. Lang "Fermarud" - I have high hopes of that one and look forward to putting it to work once Neil Miller has worked his magic on it. The photo is a lousy one, but it gives a good idea of how tiny this razor is next to a 13/16.

i have a mini le grlot thats pretty cool. but i dont really like shaving with it, might need a honing.

I have several little razors (as well as some normal-sized ones), mostly 4/8-ish, and am always on the lookout for other small ones (especially one of the small Filly Doble Temples that's actually affordable). I have:
- a Kraut & Donal "Regina" - small, hollow, and spike-pointed, perfect for touchups and full shaves alike.
- a Harris Bros "Wedge" - 4/8-5/8, nice and wedgey (obviously) but holds an incredible edge, and almost as small and manouevrable as the Regina
- an ugly (somewhat pitted and covered in black stuff, and with horrible tacky warped plastic scales) Bannister with no name - back when it was sharp it was a nice shaver, but has been in need of a honing for ages. One day I'll get it restored so it looks as good as it shaves, but that's a ways off.
- a tiny wee Ringleader 1/4 hollow that just makes it at 4/8. Sadly this one wasn't shave-ready when I got it, so I'm waiting to save up the gold to get it honed up for me so I can evaluate it - given it's Swedish steel, I imagine it'll give a decent shave.

I have a couple of little razors that I have acquired through friends and family. At first I was a little hesitant to try them, but after a while I got over that. They are pretty easy to use. I do find though that they are just a little more tricky to strop.

I have a short Marsh Brothers that was my first straight. It is one of my favorites. It is 4/8 blade and is about 5/8 inch shorter than the other razors I have.

I gave a nice reworked (shortened about 3/4 inch) 5/8 joseph rogers to a coworker and he likes it a lot. He wears a well kept beard and uses the straight to keep well kept. He likes the short one much more than a full size I had given him earlier.

I have a wonderful little 4/8 swede (Helleberg) that may be one of my best shavers. I have been using it as my go-to blade when I'm in a hurry and need a trusted weapon in order to get ready for work.

The only (and I do mean only) downside I've seen is that the tang is so dang small that I don't like how it strops compared to the thicker/larger tangs on my other razors.

Yep skinny tangs & my stubby fingers make for challenging 3 pass shaving but for trimming & final touchups , gotta love em.

I have had a few: a 7/16 Boker, a 9/16 Rex Swede, 3/8 Biedermeir and Depews. I kept the Swede and use it within my rotation. The truth is I like them all, 8/8s down to 3/8s. My favourite size and grind is a 5/8 or 11/16 in full or extra hollow, but its nice to use 8/8s, wedges and smaller razors from time to time.

Those Mastro Livi's are nice. One of those would do wonders for an ATG on my neck. If you ever get tired of the one with wood scales let me know.

How about this Empire Cutlery Works, Solingen Germany razor? Blade lenght at the cutting edge is only 2" long.

Customized by Jenewein, and it is handy as all get out. Full hollow blade, smaller handle, double stabilizer, and a dream for shaving since it has less surface drag when shaving.

You might enjoy a Lewis razor.

Those are some nice razors guys!

I have a couple of the Korn Travel razors...so far I can't get them to take an edge but...we'll see. One is the translucent red and the other is translucent green that almost looks black until you hold it to the light. Still a bit undecided if I want to keep them.

Great thread, Lawson! And thanks for all these ideas, everyone! I've decided my razors are too long to shave my neck. I'm running out of Neosporin, but at least now I have an idea of what to look for. :hmmm:

Just got a Crown and Sword Liliput, can't wait to finish polishing and then honing it. Hoping it solves my problems with a few areas on my neck.
