My girlfriend dropped my razor :(

Title says it all. I had just stropped it up and was in the shower and my gf knocked it off the sink. Then she didn't even tell me. I got out of the shower, lathered up, went to grab my razor and it wasn't there. So I'm looking around and I finally ask her if she saw it and she tells me she dropped it. I went back into the bathroom and there it was, blade open, lying on the floor still. :dropjaw:

Now there are 3 tiny spots near the toe that don't reflect light quite like the rest of the bladed. Thankfully, I have a free honing from ynn, and my razor was starting to feel like it needed a honing.

Mostly I'm disappointed that she knocked it off the sink in the first place (she knows how I cherish them) and then not even pick it back up or tell me. Grrrrrrrr.

If it's just three small spots near the toe, your razor faired remarkably well. The first time i dropped a razor, it cracked and broke a huge piece out of the toe - that razor is toast. The scecond time, there was no apparent damage (and definitely none to the edge), but it was a razor I was in the middle of buffing anyway.

Thankfully it was a relatively inexpensive dovo, and the damage doesn't look to great. Like I said, 3 tiny spots on the edge that reflect light just a little differently. I restropped and shaved with it, and it did an alright job.

For future reference, that doesn't sound to me like a good idea. If there are chips or dings, there could be jagged edges, which could tear up your strop or worse, your face.

+1 to that! I made that mistake and scraped the hell out of my strop in just 2 strokes!

Just a razor. Now, as far as what you should expect from the relationship goes: I think you should take her to Victoria's Secret, let he choose something you like and explain how she can make things up to you.

The horror....imagine if it had been ivory or pearl scaled!! Your loss is minor, and you have a free honing to put it right.

What I would have found most annoying was coming out of the shower looking forward to my shave and having to strop up another razor...

It could have been alot worse, especially if it was left on the floor and she didn't tell you, I mean, you could have stepped on it bare foot! Ouch

So sorry to hear (or rather read) about your mis-adventure with the Dovo. In my mind, the thing that bugs me the most is that this incident has nothing to do with the razor, but it has everything to do with communication. Why wouldn't your GF tell you about it knowing full well that you would find out?

Anyway, this communication thing is a little thing that makes a BIG difference (for me, anyway).

IMO, JoeD is absolutely right on the money with his advice...one has to wonder what value she puts on the relationship if she was unwilling to communicate this mishap with you...after all, it's not like a make or break kind of a deal?

I agree; she should have told you--it's not as if you wouldn't have found out anyway. Accidents may well happen, but not telling you...? Especially since she knows how much you value your razors!

Also agree you were relatively lucky--my Wapi is no more after being dropped--a 2/8 chip mid-blade resulted. :mad: Not worth grinding out, since the razor was only 5/8.
Holli is right about scratching strops w/ a nicked razor--I''ve done that once. Fortunately it was shallow, so it buffed right out. Wouldn't want to risk it on something like a Kanayama, though. ;)

Sounds like somebody is jealous and needing some attention!

Between my wife and three cats... all my razors must be kept in a latched box as far away from gravity as possible except when I'm using one for a shave then that razor is never out of my sight. If anyone drops one of my razors it's gonna be me...

I appreciate all the sympathy, and yeah, I'm going to talk to her about why she did not at least pick it up.

That said, please don't be to quick to judge someone you don't know. She is a night nurse who works her ass off, doesn't get the rest she needs, and her first half hour of being awake is pretty much in a haze of semiconciousness.

The razor was covered up by a towel, so I can't really fault her for picking up the towel which dragged the razor off the counter. I can fault her for not picking it up or telling me she dropped it.

She is going to be so ****ed off at you for ratting her out on a shaving forum. You better apologize big time! :) ;)

Her not telling you need not mean she's dishonest, it might just mean she's not comfortable telling you she might have damaged something of yours. Or she honestly might not have realized she did it. People can be preoccupied and do something like that, and it not register on them at all.

It could be that the relationship needs a few tender strokes, just like the razor.

Good women are not perfect, so don't trash a good relationship over one slip-up.

She may even have selective memory or suffers from short term memory loss!

Nice thread lol. I don't let me girlfriend near my razors. She has a fear of sharp items, specifically being chopped up by an ax murderer, so I can play on her nightmare. She stays clear of my shaving blades :) Bottom line, instill a healthy fear of sharp edges and she'll stay out of the bathroom until you've cleared everything up. LOL sorry about your razor.
