Some Help from the experts,please

I posted my last razor that I thought was a Henkles,but turned out to be a Gottlieb Hammesfahr, and after searching the web I happened on a link
that said that a company named Revisor was the remnants of that company,I don't know. I do know that I have NEVER gotten a shave like this before,its amazing...and I cannot find anything that looks like it either,I don't know what this kind of blade is called,some say French,spike,and a few others.Does anyone really know what is the proper name for it is,and if there is any truth in the Revisor story,and what should I look for to get another blade in this shape? Also if you find one of these,i suggest you grab it if you can,its smoother than my Boker,and that's saying something.
Any help would be appreciated

Well, you could ask Revisor.... They´re members here :). As for french points, it can also be called an irish point and prob other things.

PS That´s a french point, spikes are more square in shape, I think.

I generally call a "spike" a square point that is actually "pointy". A rounded off one I call a "square" point, but yours is what I think they really do call a French point. The Wiki has this info somewhere.

Revisor has a very fine reputation as a razor, and there are old and new Revisors, and I've heard good stuff about both. I think Lynn actually posted something a few months back about the "new" revisors, so it might be worth searching the site.

This blade has been honed nearly to obliteration and would be a candidate for a regrind to 1/2 but can obviously still be used. It does not shave anymore as once intended, it's now a lot stiffer. If you want to find similar blades look for stiff 1/2 blades. The fact that the bevel almost touches the stabiliser and the geometry of the head show the use.

The chamfered sides of the head identify it as a 'Schorkopf' in german. Sorry, don't know the matching english name. You can see examples in [1] and [2] where [3] shows a head geometry more similar to what's left of yours.

I am not sure if any are correct or not, the only two I have seen printed on actual Vintage razor boxes are the French and the Oblique....

I'm not sure you are right, but I'm not sure I am either, so I'll just say this as a devil's advocate...

Some razors are simply made that way, as evidenced by your example [3] which you provided to indicate head geometry of a razor that is "honed nearly to obliteration" yet it has no hone wear. Yes the stabilizer is relatively close to the bevel, but that does vary among razors. The two reasons I don't believe this razor to be "honed nearly to obliteration" are 1) the relatively limited degree of hone wear and 2) the apparent location of the belly of the blade as indicated by the reflected light.

Im not sre wich blade is supposed to be honed to oblivion either,they all look moderatly
as they should be IMHO. and glen I think the term oblique is the best decription of the wat it looks and the best way to decribe it,thanks.

Maybe using a blurred picture to justify the usage of 'obliteration' wasn't a good idea in the first place. Sounds too harsh anyway as it shaves good. Some of mine look similar and do the same.

The short distance to the stabilizers does not look harmonic in my eyes on a razor of this size. I wouldn't be surprised if the bevel sits close to the belly.

@Grizzley1: May I ask for a detailed picture of the stabilizer area including parts of the bevel with only one lightsource?

I think your razor has many years of useful life left. It looks to have about 2 mm honewear on the spine, which is not excessive. I know from experience that all it takes to hone into the stabilizer is a wee bit too much pressure on a lower grit stone while placing the blade too high on the stone, placing the stabilizer in contact, with direct downward pressure. What happens when you hone too fast! Hope you enjoy many, many more good shaves from your Hammesfahr.

I looked closely and that would be the maximum.The picture makes it look much larger
and I think the lighting had something to do with that,I'm not a pro-but nonetheless,it appears to be very lightly used and still is the absolutely best one I currently own
I have about seven,with two out being honed and restored,that being said,compared to my W&B,Boker,and Blue Diamond and a couple of not so well known German blades,THIS one sets itself apart in a big way,also they don't seem to be very common,I don't know what to think about that other than they didn't make that many or the people who have them don't part with them.all I know is that I'm very glad that it was in that Henkels box,and I put up some better pictures.anyone who owns one please post it and let me know if you like it as much as I do,please.

OK last try,couldn't find the pictures,but here goes. Good,that the extant of my picture taking ability,the razor is fine,better, than fine, if you think its over honed to oblivion that's OK ,you don't have to use it.To the others who know what they are looking at ,I thank you,the things almost new,and I appreciate the support

Ok, in the guy's defense, the bevel was fairly close to the stabilizer, which can be a sign of the blade being honed into the wider belly of the blade. As he stated, this would lead to a stiffer, and therefore different, shave. Also, he perceived the shape of the blade to have been honed to the point where what he thought was a rounded over oblique had lead to the elimination of the rounded part. In other words, I think he mistakenly projected a toe shape onto this razor that it never actually had.

These were easy assumptions to make. I objected to them mainly because in my opinion the hone wear did not appear to match the other two assumptions, but these were easy "mistakes" to make, if they were mistakes.
