Does anyone here know if this razor's maker is the Shepherd from Marshes and Shepherd and if so does it predate Marshes and Shepherd?
My Goins book lists the name of "Shepherd", but has no information on it...sorry.
Strangely, my Goins book has some info about one Shepherd.
There were several companies with Shepherd mark:
John Shepherd, Holles Croft St., Sheffield, 1770-1795.
Edward Shepherd, Sheffield, 1787.
Robert Shepherd, Norfolk St., Sheffield, 1787.
I can say nothing if they had connections with Marshes family.
No idea either. Do you plan to hone that, Earl? Looks like a challenge. And more.

I've got one I'm working on from the same maker with a similar design.
6/8 at the widest point and 9/16 at the narrowest.
If you find something out, let me know and I'll do the same.
Well I have a request in for hones for Christmas so hopefully I'll be honing then. I think I would have a master hone that one though.Quote:
