It does not "open up" completely. You pry the head open with the injector key and slide the new blade in.

Whoa, mantic was getting dirty with the music selection!
Nice.
the spring is probably crusted with junk. try some scrubbing bubbles with warm water and an old toothbrush to loosen the crud
adamviolet,
More people have ruined the early (e.g. 'E' & 'G') Schick Injectors by trying to move the spring than you can shake a stick at !!
Some of the early models allowed the spring to be rotated to release the head. This was soon replaced by a pegged spring.
With these, leave well alone. Try as the other posters have suggested - soak in detergent - if you have access to an ultrasonic bath, then that would be a very good way to go (immerse only the head, not the handle).
Good luck !
Have fun !

this movie is AMAZING!!!!
Excellent advice from Russ. I have 2 Schick E razors, one De Luxe and the other standard. I cannot shift the lever on the latter although I have not tried heroic methods as I know darn well it will break or spoil the razor; not worth it as the razor shaves well and blade replacement can be effected.
I have not experienced the aggression that some claim these razors to possess.
PhatMan, How do I know if I have the pegged spring or not?
adamviolet,
Hold the razor, head up with the spring facing you.
Look at the top of the spring. If there is a 'U' notch in the middle of the top of the spring, then it is pegged. (The peg will also be visible in the notch.)
(I must really get a camera !!)
Have fun !

I gripped the spring with needlenose pliers and very carefully rotated the spring using minimal pressure. I was surprised with how much gunk was still in there, because I had cleaned it well, or so I thought.
