Razor Acquisition Opportunity-? about D.J. Faour

I got a call from a local antique dealer who knows I'm a sucker for a razor.
That's like a Black Jack Dealer calling a known gambling addict to let him/her
know there is an empty seat waiting at the table.

The razor she describes has a blade etched with a horseman and dog chasing a steer. A Google search led me to D.J. Fauour and Bros. She says it's got a bit of pitting near the handle but the blade is otherwise in great condition. She thinks it's worth about $150, but wants $75. I know asking for prices is dicey but I'm wondering if anybody is familiar with this razor and
if the the price is ballpark. I have no idea if it's shave-ready. Previous razors I've purchased from her have been in outstanding condition.

The fact that an antique dealer has me in mind when she finds razors is very nice but somewhat concerning. SWMBO is an antique collector/dealer. She is a terrible enabler regarding my AD's but doesn't like the real estate
I've taken over in the bathroom.

It's very difficult to price razors even if you know EVERYTHING about them (which is why we don't do valuations in the first place) - but not having even photos of the razor makes it extra impossible.

Pricing is dicy and thats one of the reasons we dont do it here
Only an open auction can determine the value of that exact razor,
a well preserved motif may interest a few collectors tho

Is it looking as good as the similar priced ones in the classefieds and ebay?
Can you find the same at any other place at the moment?
Last question is: Is it worth the price to you?

I"ve never heard of that maker. Take a ride down and give it a look. It will either be worth it to you or not. You know how it is, I might give that much for a razor that you wouldn't look at twice and vice versa. :)

it's not too hard though. here it how it goes:
do you want the razor?
do you have the money?
do you want the razor more than you want the money?

I've answered these questions in the affirmative hundreds of times but I can quit any time :)

That all makes sense, it just helps when somebody has heard of the razor. I'll take a look at it and go with my gut. Thanks for the input.

That sounds like a razor I ran across while trying to learn more about one of my blades. Google "Jack Knife Ben" or go straight to this link:

Jack Knife Ben "Pride of the West" Straight Razor

The scales on this one have the horseman, dog, and steer. The blade is made in Germany, and says "Pride of the West" like the one I have. My blade and razor are much plainer than the one at this link, or the one you describe, but it hones and shaves very nicely.

That's extremely helpful and greatly appreciated!! I'm pretty sure that's it. I'm going to try to get a look at it today. Will post pics if I bite.

This is an unknown brand razor. On the classifieds forum you can get a well known brand razor for less, sometimes even shave-ready. Keep that in mind when contemplating.
