A QUESTION NOT FOR THE NEWBIES

Here's a question that I personally haven't seen here yet,although I sure its been asked.
A lot of us have more than a couple of straights,that being said,which one would you absolutely,under no circumstance sell or trade?,I mean your FAVORITE, I'm gonna keep it till I die razor,the one that never lets you down? Out of my modest collection of ,TI silverwing ,Henckels frierodor ,Ern,Gottlieb & Hammesfahr,Boker,Hammond,a couple of Torrys,and I think two more Soligens that I cant remember the names of at the moment,I would have to vote for my ,Gottlieb & Hammesfahr.
This razor refuses to give me a bad shave or more impornttaly a cut or nick.Last night I was hurting badly,from a recent surgery,and a few old ones,and probably shouldn't have been using a butter knife much less a straight,but as some of you know the incision was on my neck and had four days of growth iching the life out of me and I had to do what I had to do,although I wasn't all that steady and got a fabulous shave nonetheless. Ive tried to find a backup to this razor(with a French Nose)
to no avail,as a matter of fact one post said it was like finding a needle in a haystack in the first place.
So this too long tail begs the answer,whats YOUR favorite?? And yes I know its the wrong box.

I don't have a favorite performance wise, but if I could only keep one it'd be an easy answer for me. I had my house burglarized in '09, and lost pretty much everything. Without asking anyone for a thing I had offers from various members here to help get me set up again. Even after telling people that I couldn't accept anything, some SRP members not to be named sent me a great little Robeson ShurEdge that will never leave my possession. Brand wise... I like them all, personal value wise... it's at the top of my never sell list.

I learned a long time ago to 'never say never' but .... I have a Robert Williams custom that I don't believe I would ever sell..... but I never say never. :)

I can't imagine ever selling some of my really odd ones, like my Mappin Lancet Edge or my DePew's Perfect Razor.

My 6/8 Dovo Renassiance is my daily go to razor. Thus I wouldn't sell it. I'm holding on to my Honda Civic too. Neither are exceptional razors, but around these parts workhorses are far and few between.

I've got two that I would definately never sell.

One is my Japanese Iwasaki Kamisori that SWMBO got me for my birthday, and thus has huge sentimental value and the other is my limited edition Wacker of which only 16 were ever made.

I have others like my W&B wedge and my DD's that I would really hate to sell, but I could always replace those I guess. The two I mention above are really irreplaceable to me.

Setting aside my Heirloom pieces (they will be handed down to the next family member interested)... Mmmm had to look at my wall...

Hard question to answer really, while I am very fond of my rotation at the moment, there is one that always has been there for me. My "Bell, Belfast" just feels great and has now been able to shave with my eye closed. Took me a while to get that edge there but now that it's set I have never had a problem keeping it there :)

I'll never sell "Big Joe", my 7/8 Joseph Elliot.

He's not pretty, but he's the best shaver I've ever owned. Ultra smooth, never bites.

I think I would actually be keeping my strop over any of the razors but that's due to the family heirloom nature goes back 3 generations thus far....

oh and of course the matching wade & butcher wedge that came with it also 3 generations... that thing is a beast it's my go too razor if I need to take off a full beard in one pass...

I have a J.A. Hellberg frameback that belonged to my grandfather. I have not seen a reason this far to sell it, as it is ok shaver too.

Unless a razor was a gift or handed down, they are all fair game.

The only razor that I have that fits that description is a Winchester straight that a friend of mine bought for me at auction. He spent way too much for it, and I sent it off to get restored... When the fine gentleman that restored it for me told me:

"I wish I had a good enough friend to spend $XXX on a razor for me, and I wish I had a good enough friend who'd pay to try to salvage it... I wouldn't feel right charging you what it's worth, so just send me $50." There's never been a picture of it, there's never been a revelation of who restored it, and there never will be. It's a family heirloom that my children already know about. All told, that's easily the most money ever put into a razor that's probably worth $50... But, it's a valuable razor to me.

PS. It does shave very well, too...

Have never seen another, it is my best shaver, and I won't ever sell it..
Not that it worth anything monetary wise, IIRC I got it in a lot for about $7...
It is a true one pass WTG shaver on my face :)

Well... I'm kind of a newbie, having been shaving with a SR for a few months now. But, ah, I'm addicted and have five razors. My favorite is a TI 6/8 with a very nice decorated back. It's heavy to the hand and has some heft. I wouldn't want to get rid of this one.

It goes to show that there are formus like this where not everyone want to simply put you down and say they cn do better, or insult you for no reason, as i find other sites consist of, namely youtube.

Well, I've already sold off most of my collection & favorite razors that I thought I'd never sell. I guess I'm a fickle bugger & don't have much emotional attachment to 'things'.

I'm down to 5 western razors & 2 kamisori, I may yet part with some of those, however, I would really have to be strapped for cash to part with my Iwasaki Kamisori... & I'll probably never sell my Ho... Hang on I better add a pic :p

I can dig that. I can see that you guys get what I mean ,It dosent have to be the most expencive or rare razor in the world,just the one that you wouldnt part with under normal circumstances-you know YOUR favorite,add some more pictures if you can,its getting interesting.....

new to the forum but shaved for a little pre-hand
there are two I will keep, the first razor I got, a dovo 5/8 inox with olivewood scales and the first razor I honed to a comfortable shave a 6/8 full hollow with celluloid scales.

The last razor I said I'd never sell has been sold.

My 7/8 Wacker. Although it's new, I have spectacular shaves with it every single time. It's not going anywhere. I also have this 4/8 WB special. It was one of my first attempts at a restore, and it also (until the Wacker arrived) was my best shaver, hands down. It stays too.

This is a cool thread. I like seeing the pics of other people's fav's....
