What should I buy Next?
Hello All,
I have a Dovo 5/8", full hollow, round point, straight that I bought from SRD. I want to try some new sizes and grinds. I was thinking I would try to find a 6/8th, half hollow, spike but they seem harder to find than I was expecting. So I have been considering other combinations as well.
I am thinking about these 2 options so far. I'd like to hear what you gentlemen suggest for getting a better feel for different straight razor sizes and grinds.
Option 1: (from SRD lifetime honing)
Dovo Bismark 5/8, full hollow, spike point. (try spike)
Dovo Prima Klang 5/8, extra hollow, round point. (try extra hollow)
Option 2: (NOS, Shave ready)
Rugby 6/8, quarter hollow, spike point. (try 6/8, spike, and 1/4 hollow)
My budget is around $300 otherwise I might have just bought all 3. :)
I also like a clean blade, even bevel and sound scales. This is why I am looking at new or new-old-stock. I would consider vintage razors but I would want them fully restored.
Anyway sorry for going so long let me know what you all think and if there are vendors I should be looking at let me know. I try to follow the SRP vendors but I am not seeing a lot of options probably due to the Holiday season.
Thank you,

I really like the PKs, but it's about what you like, not what I like.

The lifetime honing thing will pay for the razor over time...that type of deal is awesome! You should go with whatever you REALLY want. My first new razor was a bismarck in bone honed by Lynn...it is still a great shaver. It's one of those razors that loves to nibble on ear lobes if you don't keep it on a leash!

You can check Revisor web site they have some very nice NOS vintage razors.
I got a Kama and I am very happy with it.

I'd say the 1/4 hollow, just to try the opposite end of the spectrum.

If your budget is 300.00 I'd personally go after a Filarmonica Doble Temple 13 from eBay...
Otherwise you cannot go wrong with the Dovo Prima Klang. A large number of people I have crossed paths with regard this blade as Dovo's best new production blade.
Again, if you're looking for a new production shaver a 6/8 Thiers Issard form Art of Shaving would also be a solid choice.
Cheers :beer1:
