I didn't know that rice could be considered a dessicant.
Good point. Never thought about that. Hey we may be onto something here.
You got a significant other that can check for you from time to time?

If it absorbs water, it's a desiccant!
Rice does absorb moisture, and after a couple of months you can replace it with fresh rice and cook the old stuff. I've used this in combination with my mineral oil/alcohol dip for years.
Oh, and the brown stuff is better for you!
I do it as well, those packets are in everything these days.
I save them and throw them in my display drawers. They work nicely. I also found some NOS dessicant bags that we used to put in GM car air conditioners VIR systems. They are about baseball sized pillows and work wonderfully. I keep one in my cabinet with my shavers and have had no rust problems.
Where I live, SoCal near the ocean, I find that I need to keep my guns well oiled otherwise they will rust. My razors however have not shown even the slightest corrosion. This seems rather odd. None of the razors are stainless either. That's a total mystery to me.
