Gateway wet shaving equipment.

Hello All,

I have decided to introduce more friends and co-workers to wet shaving. I feel that while straights are the ultimate destination the first step should be to get folks off of expensive cartridge blades and canned shaving cream.

I am looking for the best starter equipment at the lowest cost.
I want a:
decent but cheap DE razor and blades
decent but cheap brush
decent but cheap soap

To this end I have come up with the following kit so far.
$1.34 Arko Shaving Soap Stick
$6.77 Van Der Hagen Natural Boar Brush

Are there any decent but cheap DE razor and blades I should be looking at?
Any better and cheaper soaps?
Any better and cheaper brushes?

I'd like to buy 10 kits or so and then hand them out to friends and co-workers.

I guess I am looking for a good DE razor and a set of blades for under 10 bucks.

The idea is to give a shaver a complete alternative to the current canned cream and cartridge razor way of shaving.

ideally you'd want to buy an old gillette tech or something for $10.. as for a new DE.. i know the plastic handled feather is around $18.

Ya, you'll probably have a hard time finding anything in that price range unless you go vintage at antique stores or something. I must say that its a cool idea you have though and an amazing gesture to try and share your passion like that...kudos :tu

I've been using the aluminum Weishi:

It's very light, very "mild"
(opposite of aggressive). Works well with Feather blades, haven't tried it with anything else.

Feather blades are on eBay for around $0.50 each; they're very, very sharp, and last for several shaves.

Looks good to me! I use the similar Dorco 2pc plastic DE form time to time, and get fine shaves from it. The Dorco is surprisingly sturdy, for all plastic construction, and I imagine that the Treet will be similar.

Heh, so I am surprised at how small the Arko shave sticks are. It's no problem but I think I will give 2 rather than 1 sticks.

For some reason I was under the impression that these were the same size as deodorant sticks... They are half that size :) The pictures make them look like the same size as a cleanser can.

They are 8cm tall by 3cm diameter BTW.

No problem I still have plenty!
