Differences of razor models

I've been noticing slight differences between models of the "same" razor for a while now and I wanted to ask if it was just me or is this something that actually happened.

The pictures below are an example, a Wostenholm 'Conqueror' with a different monkey tail and toe. There are some differences here that are obvious and it may be age wear in this case but I have seen minor differences like this in many different instances. Is this from the manufacturers making different models or is it from someone altering them somewhere down the road? Maybe a combination of both?

I would say different model years. One is older than the other.

I'd be willing to bet the top one is quite older, the bottom one is more modern. Thanks for sharing...

Razors evolved over the years, but didn't always get new names. This is common to nearly anything which is manufactured; cars are a great example.

BTW, that second photo is very nice. Where did you get it? Lol

Similar to 1965 ford Mustang vs. 1995 Ford Muatang.

The second photo is actually taken from Holli4's website (I found through google). The first is taken from a recently ended ebay auction that made me curious.

I agree with it being similar to car models thanks guys! It'd be cool to see other examples if anyone has them! Oh and btw, any dating info from the first compared to last? How long did they keep this model it looks like decades.

Well the first date was a bit of a nerve wracking event, but things got easier every time and eventually I got married...But not to my first date...It would never have worked with her anyway...:D

I'm just bumping this to show another example. I find this very interesting seeing how the models varied over the years. I wonder which of these is older. I'm considering buying the one on the bottom, very patriotic.

I can't tell if the one in black scales has a worked spine or not but I believe it does. The eagles are not similar at all though and it looks like the points may be different.

Yes the one in black does have a worked spine. The different edge geometry on the bottom one is likely due to hone wear which was hiden during the restoration process, and I'd guess the razor was subsequently taped.
