I can find a double grind, but no double hollow!!?

I've never heard about a double hollow razor.

In this article you can also read about double grinding of razors. Perhaps that was what you meant?
Maybe an extra hollow ground? :shrug:

I believe the Hess below shows a double hollow. It's almost a 9/8's. If you look about 1/3 of the way up from the edge you will see the light reflect differently from heel to toe. Two hollows were ground into this blade. One from the spine which ends 2/3's down and the second from that point to the edge. I believe it relates to the diameter of the wheels used to grind the blade and it adds a bit of rigidity to the blade as in car doors hoods and other flat metals. Hold a piece of copy paper out from one end and it will flop down. Put a crease in the paper and you will be able to to hold it straight out. Hope this helps.
Perhaps, I recently honed a razor for a fellow that was ground from the spine down to about the middle of the blade and then flared out and was then again ground down the to the edge. See the razor to the left in the photo. I imagine the ridge in the middle of the blade was to provide stiffness. It was a pain to hone as the center ridge was almost as thick as the spine.
I am NO expert, but don't you think that just is a BIG double grind? :shrug:
You will find that most full hollow razors are ground with two wheels of different diameter. The result is a wider "belly" somewhere between the edge and the spine.
You can easily test for this if you cannot simply see it. Hold the razor so that it is reflecting an overhead light. Rotate the blade so that the reflection travels from the spine toward the edge. If the blade has a belly, then at some point the reflection will also come from the edge. As the rotation continues, the two reflections will merge near the peak of the belly.
May well be just a double ground razor :) No need to be testy, just trying to help. I just know how to shave and how to make them shave, otherwise not that all that much.Quote:

Here is a very good article explaining what 'hollow' grind is and why and also double hollow grind.
Look at the two cross-sectional diagrams of a single hollow ground blade and a double hollow ground blade. Also read the explanation.
Hollow = concave in the blade when looking at it end on. Especially read the paragraphs on Stability and balance.
