    Default Rust Prevention Treatment

Just did my first shave with a brand new DOVO with Carbon Steel, the experience would be a topic on the other board. I am wondering do I have to apply some sort of oil on the blade every time after shaving for the best rust prevention? How often should I oil it for reasonable maintenance ?

You can apply mineral oil, ballistol, or camelia oil for protection.

+1 on what Stefan said. Make sure your blade is dry before closing. Check between the scales for moisture. I use camelia oil on my blades only when I put the razor up for a time. High carbon content steel will oxidize a little quicker.

I have a dovo with high carbon steel I also live in a very high humidity climate. I oil mine with safflower oil after every shave and no rust to speak of. I also dry thoroughly with tissue.

    Default rust prevention

Treat your blades (sparingly) with Tuf-Glide for good long term protection.

thank you for all of you! Did some search on internet of what I can acquire here in Hong Kong, here's no ballistol or Tuf-Glide, there maybe some Chinese made blade oil with mystery content tough. The only option would be a brand of camelia oil from Japan called Oshima Tsubaki. This thing is marketed for hair, I think it works with blades since it contains only 100% camelia oil

I think you can just use Johnson's baby oil, I know they'll have that in HK and easily availible too, at any ParkNShop or Wellcome, even 7 eleven/OK, it's mineral oil.

Plus it smells nice and you wouldn't mind scraping it on your face. You don't have to worry about getting specialized razor oil. More importantly is to make sure the razor is fully dry after use before storing it. Just my 2 cents.

    Default Talk

I recently watched a video on youtube of dovos straight razors being made, what they used for rust prevention was quite simple. Dip all of the blade in talk. Dunno if it works but it should prevent it from getting moist. Just a tip

    Take care

If you are in a dry climate and properly clean and dry your razor after shaving, then you do not need to do anything more for rust prevention. I would rather use nothing than mystery oil.

Hong Kong is perhaps one of the most humid places on earth. It is not uncommon for humidity to be at 100%.
