got 2 of mine back shave ready, help with maker ID on 1? W&B?

so got these as part of a big lot a few weeks ago

a friend thats on here (ill leave it to him to make himself known) was nice enough to give them a once over and hone em up for me!

the wosty is pretty nice, it was decent when it went to him and he was nice enough to clean the blade up and rescale it for me! very nice work!

the Gilchrist was pretty rough, and the scales are original and one side has a minor crack, but he told me it had a nice chance of a simple clean up and keeping the scales, so i was excited! he worked it over beautifully and the blade is shave ready as well now!

*** am i the only one that sees the W&B marking on this razor??****

i know Gilchrist was an importer, perhaps they made this blade for his shop?

now i have another saveable (german concave) razor, and a 7/8 W&B barber notch wedge that would need a FULL resto that i cant afford just yet but is on the back burner.. he was nice enough to give these a look over as well and give me his opinion, and we both think they are probably salvagable! i have 1 more nicked up blade that i have an odd idea for, so we will see

for now, tomorrow should be exciting.. im thinking the big Gilchrist :tameshigiri:

opinions on the W&B origin possibility?

Gilchrest imported W&B's for resale. That razor is a W&B. And a beautiful one at that. Odd to see the Bow logo on a non-Bow razor.

glad to hear you gave it a go!!! it does have a nice weight, and the super thin scales are my favorite part!

just thought id get back ...

the gilchrist is a GREAT shaver! i love the weight, and it shaves nice and the slight bow makes things a lil easier for me.. the only down side is the original scales arent holding the tension like they would new, so stroping was a little more of a pain.. but WELL worth it

You are correct, You will have to strop a bit slower.

I did not attempt to peen the scales tighter because I didn't want chance cracking them.

The slight smile is a favorite among many.

I am glad you like them and that I could have a hand in getting you started.
