Friends,
I am looking at purchasing a new razor. I am looking at a Henkles Fiodurs, a Wacker or a Thiers-Issard. They are all about the same price and I can only afford one of them.
I have shaved with none of these, so any recommendation anyone can give would be most appreciated.

Are you looking to buy one new or used? All of those should shave just fine. With quality brands, it's hard to go wrong.
Have only had experience with the TI which shaves very nicely, and i want one of the anniversary Wackers as they have some beautiful designs.
The Henkles just don't speak to me for some reason.
That's a wonderful dilemma to have! I really like the Fridours...I have a couple of TI that are excellent shavers and beautiful. I only have one wacker and I was underwhelmed the only time I shaved with it. I have since tuned it up. I think I'll give it a go tonight so I can give it a fair shot.
Basically, I don't have an answer for you.

What TI are you thinking about?
I've not had experience with a TI, but I love my Henckels. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
I love the shave I get off my henkles friodur but my next purchase will be a historic TI as the TI brand has a special hold on me. I have no experience with wacker so I can't comment on them. Either way I'm sure you will be happy with your choice just remember to post picks when you buy one.
I just shaved with my wacker. It's the 70th anniversary. It was a great shave...very comfortable and smooth. Reminded my a the Livi regrind that just glides. I purchased it used and may not have been ready the first time I used it.
About Friodurs...I have two that are very different lengths. I purchased one that is much shorter than the other. It was purchased new from a well known site. I'm not sure why the difference in length. I was assured that it was not due to damage to the blade. It doesn't affect the way it shaves. Just thought I'd mention it.
David, What is your favorite razor right now ???? Brand, grind, size ???? and why do you like it the best ????

Then I would say get the TI, the Filli is a very smooth shaving edge that is going to be hard to beat, but the TI's will give it a run for the money...
The big Second Gen Friodurs, and the Wackers, tend more toward "Sharp" rather than "Smooth" and I hate using that terminology but I can't think of any other way to word it...
Don't take that wrong either, all three are excellent shavers when honed right, but I think with what you have to shave with, and what is your Fav, the TI is a better match for you... JMHO and that is actually what you asked us for :)
If it was up to me I'd say go for a TI. But that's only because I already have a 7/8 Friodur, and TI is higher up on my wish list than Wacker..... :w
Honestly, any of the 3 would be a fine choice.

My advice will be limited by the fact that of the three brands you mentioned, I only own a TI. I bought it in Paris spring break at Planete Raisore. It is an awesome razor and is one of my best. Let me put it this way - I reserve my TI and my Bob Allman custom as my "special occasion" razors.

I agree with the TI choice of the three you originally mentioned. I have 3 TIs and they all give a smooth shave.
But then again, I could say the same thing about my Wackers.
Well we have in common the Boker,which I like but I also have a fridor and a TI silverwing,and I like the TI a little better,but my absolute favorite
is vintage and there are some really great choices on Revisors web page,and you can take your pick of some really great blades. My personal favorite are the Gottlieb & hammesfahr,....but that's me.

Yep - that is what I asked for, and I am actually glad it will be the TI. The allure of the Fiodor is "they ain't makin anymore". But here is the thing Glen, all of the vintages we buy were just new razors as some time. And I have a fond dream that one day there will be enough straight razor users to generate the comback of one or two of those companies for whose vintages we have a penchant for. That will never happen if I remain a vintage razor snob for all of my purchases:DQuote:

You can alway split the difference and get a TI historic forging or a new one made from an old blank (maybe these are the same thing?) it gives you something rare that isn't made anymore, while being a brand new razor. That said I do want to try TI's new steel but as I figure it will still be around to try later whereas the old ones may not.Quote:
