Razor storage question

Hello all,

How do you store your straight razors? Not ones that are not used often but the ones that you use regularly. I am finally going to be moving and won't have to keep them in my room in their cases. I know patina is natural with carbon steel but want to keep them in the best condition possible. I currently clean the razor after each use and before putting them away, wipe all fingerprints off to decrease the amount of oils on the blade. If I know I won't be using one of them for a few days, I apply a bit of oil to the steel. What do you do? So far, the blades look near mint condition. Thanks!

Strop 10-20x after a shave, wipe it good and dry, then wipe it with mineral oil. This is a tried and true method that you CANNOT go wrong with. In my rotation, I may not see a razor for 30-45 days and it has worked for me and my razor case is in the bathroom...so it goes to show that the method works.

Stropping after can take minute shaving gunge off the edge, and therefore prevent rusting

I like to run under warm to hot water, wipe off with soft loo roll, strop 60x (no need to do so much but i kinda like it), polish it up with another piece of loo roll, apply baby oil with a q-tip (cotton bud) then store it back in its case

Currently I store all my razors in their coffins. I don't even use any oil on them after shaving but I live in a dry climate so it seems to be okay. I am going to be buying a wooden storage box soon though.

After shaving I'll run them under the hottest tap water. Dry them on the towel and strop them 10x on linen. So far no problems. I also must note that I never get the razors wet past the cutting edge either. Water in the pivot area is a sure fire way to get rust.

For the ones in my current shaving rotation, I simply rinse clean, dry off with a towel, blow into the scales to remove water that managed to get in there. Then I leave the razor open until I get home, close it and put it back in it's box.

I store my 'rotation razors' in a 1.1 litre Tupperware like box that has a seal on the lid; the blades are coated in TufGlide, then put into the box. I have a sheet of fine bubble wrap on the bottom to stop them moving about too much. I can fit five (5) 5/8 razors in these.

My 'archive' razors are also stored in such containers - they stack very nicely :)

I keep my razors in a cubby in my headboard with dessicant in there. After I shave with one, I dry it off good and leave it lying open in there until the next day, whereupon I strop it 20 and close it. Closing one right after shaving is a sure fire way to get rust! I do not have to oil them doing this.

All my razors are kept in my Office and every night before I go to bed, I swap the razor I used that day for the one I'll use tomorrow.

since I wipe lather off of my razors instead of rinseing them off I just dip them in alcohol before putting them in a drawer in the bedroom....and of course I lock the bedroom door to keep them out of reach of neices and nephiews when they're around....thankfully mine is old enough to know not to mess with them. gotta remember storage is sometimes about protecting more than just the razor

I have been told by the barber if a razor not going to be used for a long time, apperantly applying vaseline or another brand of petroleum jelly is better then oil, but never tried it.

I live in a very humid climate, so after shaving I heat the blade (cutting length only) with hot tap water, dry with towell and strop and apply a very thin coat of baby ( or mineral) oil and leave open until later. My home is not child proof so if you have children, trust me and don"t leave a razor out where it can be found by little John, Fred, or their friends. Years ago, my Son, when he was about eight years old, got hold of one of my good razors and thought it would make a great tool for his model airplane project. Trashed blade, and one lucky boy (no injurys) except for his backside. Best Regards, wildhog

I have a routine I use every shave. I wash it in hot water, dry with TP, inside and out of the scales and blade. I apply a light coat of mineral oil, roll it up ever so nicely in a large kerchief (scarf) and stash it in my sock drawer in the bedroom. I do this same thing every night.
