13/16” blade by John Clarke. Is this a good razor?

I recently bought the following straight razor:

Manufacturers:

John Clarke & Son

Razor manufacturer, 35, and John, inspr. 135 Harvest lane
From Whites Directory of She”ffield 1852

This straight razor has a 13/16” 1/4 Hollow ground blade.

It has black horn scales with a lead spacer.
Engraved on the tang are the words
“J. Moseley & Son 54 Broad St Bloomsbury”
“NEVA” John Clarke & Sons Corporate Mark

Does anybody have a John Clarke razor?
Is it a good razor or not? :hmmm:

I have a John Clarke , NEVA razor , but mine is a full hollow grind . It doesn't have John Mosley's name on it , though . Mine is one of my best shavers .

Sheffield steel in this time frame was good stuff. The best are excellent.

Hone it up and give it a shave test!

It may pay to get a pro to hone it for you if it does
not wake up for you. If it is not shave ready
to you do give it a light coat of oil with a drop extra
on the pivot area.

But I'm not sure, that it's John Clarke razor.
Yes. "N.E.V.A." was John Clarke trademark.
But "John Moseley & Son" was a trademark of very solid company, William Marples & Son, Hibernia Works, Sheffield.
And the last, there was really J.Moseley & Son company in London.
So, we have many choices.:)

I concur with Alex, a beautiful big blade. She's a keeper. I don't know where you're located but if you drop me a PM we can discuss a free honing session to get her up to speed for you.

I have a smaller razor in ivory. Very definitely John Clark & Son. Very definitely N.E.V.A. stamp, in I identical style as on the back of tang on yours. All on left side of tang. Cheers
