Over the last year I have amassed a relatively small collection of razors, I have a variety of British, German and US ones. I don't want to carry on and on collecting but I do intending adding just a few more and I want to have at least one Swedish steel razor amongst my collection.
I like to restore my own, so can anyone suggest some brands I should keep an eye open for? I tend to go for razors which would have been every day man in the street types rather than premium ones.
Just about any Swedish brand will do. ;) I think I have at least five-six Swedish razors and four of them are from different manufactures and they are all great shavers.
I say go for one in good condition and a shape/scales that you like. They don't cost much (closer to nothing really) here in Sweden and can be found at most smaller auctions and flee markets. It's easy to find one in good condition but much harder to find one in great condition.
Try Tradera, some people might be willing to ship abroad.

I'm a big fan of Swedish steel. The only thing I do find odd is that they seemed to make a range of very narrow straights. I don't mean in blade size but in spine width. I can't seem to get the hang of those. I've got a Klas Tornblum 13/16 and it's a seriously good razor.
4/7 of my personal rotation are Swedish blades.
3/4 of those are C.W. Dahlgren framebacks.
I believe most of the vintage brands of Swedish razors will be a good quality and give a good shave if they are in good condition. I happen to have a 6/8 Heljestrand No. 6, a 9/16 Heljestrand No. 24, and a 4/8 Strega 852, all of which are superlative shavers. The Heljestrand No. 6 is certainly in the upper echelons of my collection.
My findings too - the Eskilstuna area is as legendary as Sheffield and Solingen, in my view. Any of the following should be a fine shaver:Quote:

I only have one swede in my occamage. Its an Anton Berg and it is a seriously sharp lump of carbonised iron. Swedish steel for me takes a very aggressive edge so I find I have to be more careful when handling the Anton Berg than if I'm handling a Solingen or Thiers blade.
