It could be argued that vintage razors are better made because razor making is a lost art now (to an extent, otherwise no new razors). if its a new vs new, even then i'm not so sure because what adds cost to new razors are scale materials, gold leafing, engraving etc etc.for example my Invisible edge "classic" razor, is made by dovo. Its the same steel as their higher end models, it's a full hollow like many other dovo's ground by the same guy at the factory, so why should i shave less well because of scale materials etc etc.
And as for old vs old? well i guess it depends on condition, but i imagine a lot of good razors cost around the same when new, so a $40 vintage vs $199 is a modern construct defined by a razors "mojo" as i said before. look at genco's, i don't have one, but have read that they used to be dirt cheap NOS but now the price has gone up because people realise how good they are.
well its like buying a car you can get the 500 car that will haul u around or you can get the 50,000 mercades that will haul you around, one just looks better and may be a smother ride, i go for one that persionaly apeals to me and is within my budget, catch my drift? you get what you pay for, then again i bought my most recent truck for 190$ from my grandfather (84 f250 ) and it will pull my other truck around like a tonka toy. so more expensive isnt always better.
forgive my ramble its been a while since i was able to be on srp so i miss rambling.
I am new here...first post. But from my experience paying more will usually yield better build quality. I collect pens, watches, cars, coins, etc and soon razors. I also spend more for my own satisfaction, enjoyment, rarity, etc.

But if you're on a budget and can't afford the "best of the best" all newbs should realize that $$$ doesn't necessarily translate to better shaves. It's the user that determines that.
