Mine is the Hungarian made Flaschner.

Here is m Gaines razor. When we found this at a local shop I was going to walk away from it due to it's condition. CarrieM though it would be a good project razor for me and she was right. Thank you Honey. I am very pleased with the shaves I get off this razor once I get comfortable holding it again.
I'm starting to experiment with more advanced honing on naturals. I'm going to buy a bunch of cheap, old razors on eBay this month to practice on. I'm thinking I'll start a thread something along the lines of, Carazor's Great Shaving Razors Under $30....I'm really curious to see what I'll find and uncover. I may just donate some of my finds to newbies!
I picked up this razor recently - Alcosa #415 Prima Solingen. It has a 13/16” satin finish Sheffield blade. It shaves really nice, but it is a bit wide for me.

If I tell you, it wont be off the radar any more
IMO, in comparison to how most of the big name brands are hyped, everything else is underrated.
Ha !!!! You might have fooled some of these guys with this trick question, but I ain't falling for it.. You just want to try and outbid me don't cha????
:roflmao :roflmao
Yes, you have to wake up quite early in the morning to catch us old hands out with such an obvious ploy. However, I would have to say that in terms of stupendously underrated razors, you cannot go past the humble Bengall. They are awesome shavers. And, given I have so many of them, it would please me no end if you guys would start bidding up their price on the global market. I'm looking at retirement in 30 years, and I'm pretty sure the Bengalls are going to bring me a better payout than the stock market!! lol.
I would never do such a thing!:chop::angel:
My latest ebay victim!
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
I mistakenly sold mine to a guy just starting out! It was a good deal for him, and I'm glad to help a brother out, but I wish I still had it.
I've never seen anything like it. Completely plain-Jane. Henry Nicholson & Sons, 5/8 spike point, plain black scales. Absolutely wonderful shaver. Since I honed this before I knew what I was trying to accomplish, I'm almost certain the bevel wasn't set right, as it needed frequent touch-ups, but once touched up on a barber hone, the thing would give such a comfortably close shave!
Beyond that, my Diamondine has really been shining bright in my rotation. Took me forever (and instruction from Utopian) to get the bevel set, but once I got it dialed-in, it became one of my favorite razors. Absolutely fantastic.
I'll bite, only because I'm not in the market for any more razors for awhile. Sorry, no pictures though, which is probably a good thing because as it is now, it's more of an ugly step-sister, not Cinderella. It's a P.J Berg "Parforce" purchased from Hi_bud_gl a few years ago. It was my daily shaver for a year and a half. Smooth shaves, then started collecting dust as RAD kicked in. Recently brought back to life by Nun2sharp and I am in love with it again.
I have to agree on the Bengalls, great razors. Another British maker that is almost identical dimensionally and grind-wise to Bengall is the Taylor Eye Witness 1000. I bought this one from hi_bud_gl in the Classifieds for about $40 a long time ago. I just liked the cool name and eye logo, but didn't expect it to be such a superb shaver. I don't know whether it's a fluke or if all of them are like this, but it's in the top handful of razors I own at any price, in terms of the sort of edge it can take (and hold) with careful honing. Paper-thin grind with a relatively fat spine, and it gets that mirror-like shine that seems unique to well-made British steel.

As Jimbo said, it is not a fluke, if you get the chance grab another one.
Grab me one too while yer at. :D

I'll keep an 'eye' out for you Mick!
James.
Oh, droll mate, very droll! :)
Mick
Aye, ye be a funny lad Jimbo! :)
Should have thought of that come-back in the first place! Don-cha hate that!

Most unknown, best razor i have, would be my F.Klein 6/8 razor.
I would say it gives a better shave then all my other razors. :D

She isn't fancy but she shaves well!
Beautiful razor, to me! Love the bolsters.
Attachment 76277The one that came to my mind, out of quite a few 'unknown' marque razors in my accumulation is stamped 'Salem Markos & Bros' over Warranted. No country of origin but the Warranted makes me think England. Could be somewhere else though. I have a friend who is really into DEs and I had some old Gillettes.
He is an antique shop hound and came upon a really cool W&B for barbers and offered to trade it to me for a couple of old and rare Gillettes. We came to an agreement and he mailed the W&B to me and threw the Salem Markos in for free. I was not taken with the round point and it was dull but not damaged. At some time it had been sanded a bit and had some scratches in the belly of the blade.
It is a quarter hollow with what I think are bakelite scales with a white plastic wedge. Just a plain jane razor. I forgot about it until one day, looking for something to hone and it caught my eye laying in the pile. I grabbed it up and it honed up easily and beautifully and shaves like a dream.
Thanks, It looks a little better in photo though. :D
I have been searching the web since i got it and i cant find reference to another (Friedr) F.Klein anywhere. But i guess there are a lot of unknown razors out there.
The only information i have is: According to the town archive of Solingen the business of Friedrich Klein was licensed in Solingen in 1908.
So, if by chance someone else has one let me know :D
Burrell Top Flight? Does that qualify? Not much info on them, made in a really small window of time ('41- '42) from what I gather? REALLY nice to shave with; I have a 5/8 and it's incredibly fine...

Grandad's Larkin... a most unremarkable offering with plenty of petina... kinda narrow... and worthless to anyone else, but me. Shaves wonderfully.
Very nice! You should be proud to own such a razor. These are super hard to find. I have a beautiful set of scales with this insignia, and have searched for an Alexander Coppel blade to put in them for almost 3 years with no luck. Yours is the first one I've seen in 3 years. Enjoy!
I've got a few French razors that are unknown brands but are excellent shavers. I think that the A Doupeux is probably the stand out though. It outshaves all my TI's and most of my Le Grelot's.

Hi jerrybyers,
As mentioned before, your SR was made by Alexander Coppel, Alexanderwerk 1821-1980, Solingen, the trademark spells ALCOSO .
Those SR may be underrated overseas, but here in Germany they are rare valuable collector items, especially in that excellent condition yours is.
Over the years I only found one more nice ALCOSO #110 on britva.ru

and one more ALCOSO MASTER on ebay de
