So I just picked up this wade and butcher at an antique store for 17 bucks. It looks like a 7/8 and it's in great shape although I suspect it's been restored. The pins are 2 different materials and the stamp has been sanded away slightly. I also don't know if the scales are original. Anyways it's in great shape and there's barely any hone wear. Can anybody tell me anything about it and if it was a good deal? Also it looks to be half hollow
Certainly (to these eyes) that looks restored, maybe only the scales. Looks like a regrind though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Sharpen it up and shave goddammit:). Evaluations not allowed etc etc but I think you did ok. If those scales are horn… you did well ok. The more I look at those pictures, the more I like it. Can you repost without so much flash?
I agree about the regrind, the stamp is half into the shoulder and it doesn't make sense that it would be like that originally. Also, the blade is wider at the toe than at the heel. Will that make it a problem to hone?

I think you have a great one there. Horn scales surely. Honing shouldn't be too hard but if you're worried, send it out. Frankly, I think you stole it:).Quote:
