I have an old Wade and Butcher with horn scales. The scales are in very decent conditon. No chips or cracks whatsoever. But the horn material has just lost its luster over the years and I'd like to know what's best to use to bring that back some? Would furniture polish work? Should I give them a light sanding first maybe?
I apply neatsfoot oil generously with a qtip and let the scales sit for a few days or so. Then I wipe off the excess. You can also sand, if you so desire, though I don't.
I can get the neatsfoot oil but I do a lot of woodworking and always have some linseed oil or tonque oil around. Can I use that?
Use Scotch Brite and a little flitzz, or any other kind of polish
look in the kitchen and grab a scourer > picture < I use this (the green side)
that will get him shiny
I'd sand therm very lightly with a high grit Wet and Dry paper and then apply a few coats of bees wax and polish.

than you can sand them to a high gloss with sand paper progression and micromesh up to 12k.
