So I'm speculating that seven day sets were a sales gimmick... After a BBS shave, I don't shave the next day. It's neither necessary nor particularly enjoyable. So I shave every other day.
Does anyone shave every day? Anyone use a seven day set as labeled?
Of course this question was engendered by drooling over 7 day sets, and then right before bidding trying to grasp for a reality check... that RAD is a real monster...
Back in the day, you'd have had to be pretty well off to have a seven day set, so they were probably something of a status symbol. Perhaps akin to having fancy china and silverware?
Every person's beard is different there are many many people that shave every day.
When properly executed the shave will not irritate the skin and be equally enjoyable the next day.
Good question. I have shaved everyday that I have had to go to work for most of my life. When I started using a straight razor, I kept up with my routine - plus, I added the weekend because I really enjoy shaving. I guess I never gave it a second thought. I'm curious what others do. Shave everyday? Shave as needed? Something else?
P.S. I have been drooling over some of those 7-day sets. The W&B four pack is amazing.
I love shaving every day. I have a really fast growing beard. It has become impossible as school has started and I have an hour commute to my daughter's school. I now have to sneak home(4 blocks) a few times a week to shave! Washefuzzy? yeshewas! I have two 7 day sets, but cannot bring myself to shave with the same razor day in and day out! No fun! They sit in the gun safe! ....get it on....Tom
It seems like every seven day set I've seen has 5 pristine razors and two that are horribly worn.
Gentlemen: Make mine every day. I have a heavy beard, tree trunks, according to Lynn, but even if I did not, I still would shave every day for the pleasure of it. A seven-day set has crossed my mind, but then somehow I keep ending up with individual razors that have their own distinct characteristics.
I have a pretty heavy beard,but even though I enjoy shaving,I don't do it every day,Id rather get some real fuzz going and have at it.
It also gives me a way to change my Goatee and moustache,its more fun that way,also you can repair any mistakes.
I've seen a lot like that as well. I have three 7 day sets. Two are pristine and I'll probably leave them as is. One is not pristine but in good shape and I shave with some of those. All that I have are Solingen. When I used to collect razors, before I shaved with them, I had a couple of Sheffield sets. Unfortunately let them go over the years. I shave daily too. Hmmm... well I tried shaving every day when I started with the straights and it didn't go so well. But my technique is far better now and my edges are sharper. I'll try it again, since everyone seems to find it okay...
Second thought... the Sheffield seven day sets may have been for a manservant to use on his aristocratic employer. So the person shaved wouldn't care so much about the fun of trying the different blades and whether his last honing was up to par. I'm guessing that the whole box would have been brought to the barber once a month or somesuch for touch-ups on the stones. Having a large set would have minimized the number of such trips and the labeling would have kept the butler (or whomever) on the correct rotation.

I am up to about 20 razors. I shave almost every day. I find it to be quiet time to myself.

I shave every day as well. I have a fast growing beard, but I do it more for the enjoyment. Before straights when I used a cartridge I would get terrible razor burn and spots on my neck so I didn't shave very often. Since switching to straights my face has never been happier.
Personally I've never really like the run of the mill 7-day sets (Solingen ones). I did however finally pick up one of those 7-day sheffield oldie sets (probably around 1830s) that has the one handle and 7-interlockable blades. Really can't wait for this one to get in and restored. It is more of a collectors item for me, but I also would like it to have 7 identical razors to test all my finishers on.
Yes, back in the day the 7 day set was made for the upper crust of society. That's why so many of them tended to be scaled with Ivory and other better materials. later on they made them as a tourist thing and you see many of them as generic Solingen Razors. Still quality of course but not the same as the ones from the early 20th cent. and late 19th.

Actually, if I were HAD infected (not yet, thank God), it would be great to try different finishers/progressions on a 7-set to test theories. But I'd be flat broke or possibly bankrupt if I ever got there... not to mention divorced...

Well, I scored on the Wade & Butcher set. It should be here next week. I'll need to see how much restoration is needed; I need to figure out if I can do it myself or need to send it off. The razors are 7/8 quarter hollows. The scales are suppose to by ivory.

I have to shave every day, never have any discomfort. I have 7 razors in rotation, and I use a different one each day, but I don't see myself getting a 7-day set. I like the variety of my home-grown "set."
I shave daily, it just starts the day so well for me, even on week-ends,i have a small rotation of decent well maintained
crispy sharp razor!!! but no 7 day set!!!
My stupid fuzz won't cooperate, so I shave twice a week, which is all I can justify. I kicked that up a notch during General Tojo's visit to thrice weekly, just because I really wanted to get acquainted with him.
When I outdo myself and get a really close shave, close to BBS all around, I can shave Sunday night and not need to do it until Thursday or Friday. As it stands, I shaved on Sunday night and am shaving again tonight (Wednesday).
I wish my beard grew faster (or fuller... I've always wanted to try a mustache) but it is what it is...
