blade protection/product idea

So I never really used anything to protect my blades and never had any corrosion issues. However, I moved apartments and all of a sudden my blades have began to rust. I have been using oil on the blades daily since I started to notice the problem, but honestly it's a bit of a mess. I don't really mind having to get out the oil and a rag to put them into deep storage, but it is a bit messy for an everyday thing. Anyway, that got me thinking about using Rem Oil wipes that I saw at the sporting goods store. They are a little easier to use, since you just pull out a wipe wipe down the blade and throw it out. I'm not sure that the Rem oil is the best protection for the blade, and I haven't seen anything out there specifically for this purpose. Has anybody worked this out, or is there another product out there that I might think about using? Thanks.

How about the silicon cloths for wiping down guns? The Superior Shave has those little silicon pouches to keep your razors in. I don't know how effective they are though.

Seems like a good idea to me. If they can protect gun metal in a corrosive environment, why not a razor.

Check out Tuffglide. It was developed for military use. Dry, microbonding lubricant. I have been treating my blades with it after cleaning and honing and no problems. Razors with certain celluloid scales will have problems due to the gases emitted from the scales. I have cleaned some of them up and treated the blades AND scales with the stuff with great success. Put it on, wipe it around, and wipe it off!

Everyone has their preferred storage routine. I like to keep things simple and use mineral oil and tissue paper after every shave and have never had a rust issue. Yes, oiling the blade is yet another step in the whole SR maintenance routine, but is a necessary chore in order to keep your blade in good condition.

I took my collection out yesterday after 5 months and they were still beautiful....heavy mineral oil, covered with linen handkerchief and stored in a cigar box.

This might be a dumb idea but what about
johnson paste wax? I use it on tools to keep from
rusting. Wipe it on, let it dry and rub it off. Metal is slick and rust proof without the oily mess.

I second the tuffglide if you want a quick application.

If you want something super clean get an empty felt tip pen and put mineral oil in it. You can just write it on.

I keep a cotton dust cloth saturated with TufGlide in a glass jar in the bathroom. Never had a problem with TufGlide.

Where does one get an "empty felt tip pen"?

Try a paint supply company. They are used for touch-up pens. There was also a recent thread about someone making a dispenser that was remarkably similar to an alcohol lamp design.

I use VCI paper. No muss no fuss, just dry 'em out and wrap 'em up!

The gun oil in my honest opinion would be the best things for razors, if you buy the stuff that is basically teflon. Two reason why i think this. One it's used for guns and of course it protects the metal. Two, i use this stuff on my motorcycle chain to prevent rust. There are tons of threads on this in the motorcycle forms.
