Baby oil for corrosion inhibition?

I keep a shaker of baby oil as part of my "liquid lineup" at the sink. Question: is it an acceptable substitute for machine oil to use for rust prevention?

It seemed like a natural choice because 1) It avoids the clutter of having to keep one more bottle of stuff around, and 2) It seems like a friendlier oil to have on the blade before pulling it out to put on your face.

I've tried it with a few non-prized blades and have had no visible problems. But before I use it on the really nice razors, I'd prefer to get an expert opinion.

Thoughts?

it same as mineral oil only scented, so it will work.

For short term storage it should be fine. I don't know about long term though. For long term I would probably want something a bit more specialized.

That will work.It is a very light mineral oil after all.Long term use a grease.

What thebigspendur said. You should realize that babies' skin is a bit acidic (to kill bacteria), so oil that's formulated to be good for them is acidic too and that's not optimal for metals.

It is just mineral oil and scent. I don't know what the scent will do though.
I use mineral oil for all my storage for long term you should watch for pooling of the oil. To prvent this I add a bit of bees wax to the mineral oil.

I've been using heavy mineral oil for 3 years with no ill effects whatsoever, good stuff. Interesting thought about the bees wax though, I've never heard that one before but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

As for long term storage, all oil types will pool eventually, but the thing is no one here has settled on a definition of "long term". For most of us this isn't a concern - unless you're one of those who has a 365 razors for a full years' rotation..... :roflmao

Here in the UK mineral oil is uncommon, so I've been using a supermarket own brand baby oil for a year and its fine.

To me anything longer than 3 months is long term and I have enough razors that seldom see the light. I prefer to use A.G Russell no rust. It isn't petroleum based it's silicon based and is designed specifically for guns and knives. Once on it stays on indefinitely.
