    Default Sheafworks Adamantine Edge "two-pack"

I couldn't be any newer to this but I've had the hankering to learn this fine skill for a while and I picked up a couple neat looking razors today at an estate sale today. I'd like to solicit the forums expertise for the approximate age and value of these razors. I bought a two-pack in the original box. They have "ADAMANTINE EDGE" etched on the blade and "WM GREAVES&SONS\SHEAFWORKS\SHEFFIELD" on the side of the tang. I collect and restore vintage hand tools so I know fine craftsmanship and good condition when I see them. Both of these razors have almost zero rust (one small surface spot) and absolutely no pitting. I'm a real sucker for old steel, I love to think about the history these tools have been through. Any insight is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well...first, they're wonderful. Rough guess on date of manufacture -- 1850's. We're not allowed to offer valuations in the forums, but... let's just say they're pretty damn nice -- real nice -- not to mention a matched set in the original box. Very sweet, nice catch.

Thanks for the quick reply Stimpy. So I did pretty good picking up the pair in the original box for $10?

That's the sort of deal we all dream about. Well done! Get them pro honed and you'll be set.

AWESOME, I love a good deal so I'm glad to hear that my "cheap" entry into this great art form was the deal of a lifetime!

Now, I'm KICKING myself for not buying the other one they had, it was in the original box too but it had a broken handle scale. I think they wanted $10 for it. Well, I guess I'll be lurking around this forum a lot in the near future while I figure out how to clean, restore, and most importantly USE the damn thing! Thanks for all the replies.

Welcome to SRP. Very nice score. Check the wiki it will have all the info on maintaining those blades. Doesnt look like they need a clean up so i would leave them as is. Get them honed by a pro here and enjoy.

You will absolutely love them! I have a Greaves & Sons (Sheaf Works) 13/16 smiling wedge, which took on the most fabulous polish imaginable, and gives a truly buttery shave.
