Hi guys, new to this site and was hoping someone could give me their view on my new Wacker razor.first of the Wacker chevalier is gorgeous! However the blade closes right over to the right hand side (although it just misses the cutting edge on the scales) it only centres as it is fully pushed into the scales. Also when closed there is a small (but clear) gap between the blade and the scales (on one side only). The way I'm feeling is that for $360 these things should be spot on?
I am going to assume this is made with the Buffalo Horn scales???
If that is right, then you have to understand that Horn is a natural material and there are small inconsistencies that occur... Some people love that fact, others it drives to drink, but honestly if you want "Perfection" then do not order natural products.. Also man-made materials only increases the likelihood of consistency, not perfection... :(

Yes it's buffalo horn.....to be honest that probably wouldn't bother me if the razor sat centre in the scales. Haven't shaved it yet literally just got it. It has apparently passed 'many hanging hair tests before shipment' but failed on mine so I think I will hone and strop before I shave it!
I would try shaving with it before yo do anything to it. If you never honed a straight razor before odds are good that it will be worse off after you take it to the hones. If you are new to straight shaving I wouldn't even strop it before your first shave. Just my advice. Have fun with it.Quote:

Uhhh, your more concerned with how it sits in the scales before you've even tried it on your beard? As long as when you close the razor it doesn't hit the scales on the edge I don't see a problem.
Regardless of how it shaves, and im sure it will be great it wont ever sit straight in the scales. Glad you dont see a problem.
I owned one Wacker razor and sold it as I was not happy with it for the price I paid. Yes, the scales were horn, but they were so incredibly warped it was not funny. For that price, I think it should be close to perfect.
Vendor agreed to exchange the razor, but shipped it back after only sanding down the scales. The vendor deceived me and I was never really happy with my Wacker. Others have a completely different opinion, but that is mine.
I would expect better for $350 , but that's just me . If it's normal for buffalo horn to warp , then I wouldn't want buffalo horn . Maybe you can exchange it for one with scales made of something more stable .
I'm unhappy with a razor if it doesn't shave well. I'm unhappy with scales when they don't fit a razor.
If something doesn't close on centre, it doesn't bother me. It keeps my on my toes, since if I become complacent I'll have to re-hone the thing after I close it.
Wacker razors are excellent once the edge is dialed in. IMO, if you're judging the quality of the razor on whether it closes just perfectly, then you really didn't need to buy a wacker in the first place. You buy a Wacker because you want an awesome shave. That's why I bought a wacker anyway.....
Maybe I'm a bit cranky....I've had a long day. But I still love my Wacker.
I love my wacker. But yea, paying 350 and not being happy with ith is a point of concern. I would imagine the vender would make it right if you contacted them.
I think the bottom line here is that you appear to be unhappy with it and even though most of us might think otherwise in thinking it's no big problem I can tell you with certainty, over time, each time you use it and the scales don't center it will bother you more and more and you will be sorry you kept it. I would try to exchange it for something else.
Are you in the states? The Wacker website Schärfe ist unsere Leidenschaft shows the price of the "Chevalier" to be 229 Euro ($298.81 USD). I've been thinking about ordering the "Chevalier" as I really like the Wacker razors. Like others have posted, once it has been properly honed it is a great shaver. Additionally, I would advise everyone to buy direct from Wacker.Quote:

Hell, yah, a brand new (not resto) blade at that price should center perfectly. I'm with you 100% bro, and I'm surprised so many would accept such low standards. Your buying more than just a "good shave" when you buy a razor. It is a product, and QC applies to a razor just like any other. Buffalo horn may warp after a long while, but no reason why it shouldn't be perfectly straight when new--- no reason whatsoever.
Ok read this treat. As i paid $ 360- you should expect that he can close without hitting the scales.(new or a restored one)
Not exactly centered is ok, for me ....but if he touches the side I would contact the vendor.
You have a large amount paid for it and he may also be ok for that money.
Not happy ... complain! satisfied with it, just enjoy shaving!
