The stitches come out Friday

I posted a question a few weeks ago about the ability to take a straight on a cruise ship. Well, I did, and can give three reasons why this was a bad decision:

1. Lighting is poor
2. Space is cramped
3. Apparently, stitches cost @ $75 apiece!

I thought I had become proficient with technique, but never gave much thought to the proximity of my off-hand when rinsing the blade. In a new environment, where the faucet handle is very close to the spout, be very careful that your blade does not intersect with fingers while rinsing. I managed to slice a five stitch gash in my middle finger.

The good news is that when I dropped the razor in the sink, creating a bur in the blade, I was able to practice honing successfully when back home. Got the blade back to tip top shape and feel good about that!

Thanks, it really is fine. The main purpose for my post was to remind others of the need for caution away from the face. I never really thought much about that, but I do now. BTW, typing with 9 fingers is not fun.

Probably why old timey sailors were bearded I suppose...:) Nine fingers??? I thought you said they sewed number ten back on???!!! :D

No, it was not that serious. The wound is at the tip of my middle finger and still tender enough that I avoid using it on the keyboard.

This is really an old story. Take something you do every day in the same fashion and change one factor about it and it throws the whole process in a kilter.

Imagine how many times this happened back "in the day". We are used to a consistant shave den, for the most part, I never take long blades traveling! I am glad it was not worse!

Get well soon, since I've been using a straight razor I've noticed that I keep getting superficial slices on my hands but nothing as bad as that Good Grief I will pay more attention. :rock:

We'll watch for you on the next episode of "When Razors Attack". Ordinarily filmed in my bathroom, of course.

Update:

Went to my primary care doc today for a check-up. He had his nurse, Ms. Shakeyhands remove sutures. Wow! This hurt more than the acquisition of said wound. But then, she weren't purty. Maybe that makes a difference

True or not, it was nice story. It brought holiday joy to the site!

Yeah, so there I was in Daytona Beach when this hairy, stinky biker guy comes up to me and wants to scrap. So I say to him "Go away fat, stinky, hairy biker guy before I kick your a$$." So he says something smart and I commence to destroy him with some of my MMA skills. Yeah, thats it, that's the ticket! And when he was laying face down on the floor in a pool of his own blood, five of his buddies jumped me, I beat four of them down and the fifth one pulled a knife, he got in a lucky slash, I caught the blade right here and needed stitches. Yeah, that's it! Then I jammed the knife up his a$$ and walked out with five super hot chicks that saw my display of studly confidence and couldn't wait to see me naked. Yeah, that's it...that's the ticket. :)

Believe me, in days to come, I'll proudly display the scar and regale the grand kids with tales of the great razor fight of '11.

My interest is purely professional. I enjoy taking sutures OUT almost as much as I enjoy putting them IN. Glad to hear you're healing well.

I do housecalls, but not THAT far.

Man that stinks. But you know what they say "scars are tattoos with better stories" so now you've got one. LOL

Worst cut I've had while straight shaving was to my right pointer finger when my daughter distracted me for a moment. Man these things are sharp.
